By Pontotoc Progress

PONTOTOC – To assist with precautions against West Nile virus and other mosquito-borne illnesses, the city of Pontotoc is helping residents with mosquito control.
Residents can contact the city, and employees will bring tablets to their homes for free to treat outside water and keep mosquitoes from breeding.
State health officials said there have been 59 West Nile cases and one death confirmed statewide this summer, and August and September are usually the most active months for the virus.
