Moss will not run for re-election

By NEMS Daily Journal

JACKSON – Veteran state Rep. Harvey Moss, D-Corinth, announced Thursday he will not seek re-election this year.

Moss, who was first elected to the state House in 1983, had qualified to run for an eighth term, but said Thursday he is ready to step aside.

Both a Democrat – Nick Bain – and a Republican – A.L. “Chip” Wood III – have qualified to run again Moss in the district, which consists of most of Alcorn County.

Moss is the majority whip of the state House.

He joins other veteran Northeast Mississippi House members — Speaker Billy McCoy, D-Rienzi; Greg Ward, D-Ripey; Jack Gadd, D-Hickory Flat; Noal Akins, R-Oxford, and Warner McBride, D-Courtland – in not seeking re-election.
