154 arrested on drug charges in 11 counties
n JACKSON – A two-day raid culminated Wednesday with the arrest of 154 suspected drug violators from 11 Mississippi counties.
Those arrested face felony charges for the sale, possession and manufacture of controlled substances, including cocaine, crack, methamphetamine, marijuana, ecstasy and prescription drugs, said Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Director Marshal Fisher in a statement.
Alleged violators were arrested in the following counties: Benton, Hancock, Harrison, Issaquena, Lowndes, Pike, Sharkey, Stone, Tippah, Washington and Yazoo.
More arrests are anticipated, the statement said.
Code-named Operation Byrne Drugs II, the state drug enforcement effort targeted more than 200 suspected drug violators and involved law enforcement officers from at least 30 state and local agencies and task forces.
Operation Byrne Drugs is a national drug enforcement initiative named in recognition of the Edward Byrne Memorial Law Enforcement Assistance Grant program, which funds multi-jurisdictional task forces around the country. The program funds about a dozen Mississippi task forces through the state Department of Public Safety’s Division of Public Safety Planning.
