bond vote Oct. 9

STARKVILLE City voters will go to the polls on Oct. 9 to decide on a $26.5 million school bond issue.

“The real work is just beginning,” school board president Anne Buffington said Thursday after the board adopted the facilities plans, a resolution of intent to issue the bonds and set the bond election.

If approved by voters, the bond issue will finance, among other things, a $4 million two-story addition to Sudduth Elementary School; a $9 million renovation and additions at the Ward-Stewart Elementary/Henderson Intermediate school complex; an $8.8 million expansion and renovations project at Armstrong Middle School; and $2.5 million in improvements at Starkville High School.

The renovation and expansion plans for each school were developed by facilities committees comprised of parents, teachers and administrators, according to a article.
