MSU football player expected to leave hospital

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State athletics director Scott Stricklin says defensive end Nick Bell is expected to be released on Wednesday from a hospital in Nashville after undergoing surgery last week to remove a “mass” from his head.

Bell is a 6-foot-3, 265-pound sophomore from Bessemer, Ala. He has played in four games this season, making seven tackles, including two for a loss.

Bell began having headaches last week and was taken to a hospital, where a scan revealed the mass. Doctors have not determined the cause of the mass or whether more treatment will be needed.
