STARKVILLE – Mississippi State’s basketball teams return to action after long layoffs.
The Lady Bulldogs will take on Utah at 4 p.m. at Humphrey Coliseum, and that will be followed by the men battling East Tennessee State at 7. Tickets are $5 and good for both games, with men’s season-ticket holders taking priority after the women’s game.
The Bulldogs (4-1) haven’t played since Nov. 30 but are beginning a stretch of five games in as many days, the first four of which are regular season games (the fifth is an exhibition against Belhaven on Wednesday in Jackson). ETSU (5-4), which reached the NCAA tournament last year after winning the Atlantic Sun tourney title, is led by guard Mike Smith (15.0 points, 5.9 rebounds per game).
The Lady Bulldogs (4-2), who last played a week ago, face a Utah team that’s 4-6 and lost to Idaho State on Wednesday. The Utes are paced by guard Janita Badon (12.2 ppg).
