TUPELO – The owner of Tupelo’s Mugshots franchise of Mugshots hopes to start construction next month.
Johnny Robbins on Thursday said he’s hired JNS Designs to do the interior design and Tek 1 Studio to do the architectural work.
Last year, he bought land on Main Street near the Renasant Center for IDEAs and across the street from the Hilton Garden Inn.
The proposed building is two stories with reclaimed brick, reclaimed glass and a metal roof. It will have indoor and outdoor seating.
On Thursday, Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association’s design committee gave initial approval to the exterior design. Robbins still must get approval from the Tupelo Redevelopment Agency, which governs Fairpark, and from the city’s permit department.
This is the first franchise for Mugshots, a Hattiesburg-based restaurant known for its hamburgers.
“We’re trying to design this thing from the ground up,” Robbins said. “Every little thing has to be decided before this project starts. It’s going to happen. It’s just a matter of getting all the pieces together.”
Plus, Robbins said he still is responsible for operations for three Papa V’s locations, Main Street Liquor and Wine and Robbins Oil Co.
Once construction starts, he expects it will be about six months before the restaurant opens.
