STARKVILLE – OK, listen closely to Dan Mullen. This is how he explains Mississippi State’s practice schedule for the next few days.
“Friday’s a Sunday, Saturday’s a Tuesday, Sunday’s a Wednesday, Monday’s a bonus day, Tuesday’s a Thursday, Wednesday’s a Friday.”
With MSU opening its 2011 season next Thursday at Memphis, the normal game-week routine is being pushed up, but Mullen still prefers to stick to the regular calendar. Thus, today’s practice will be like a normal Sunday practice as the Bulldogs hone in on the Tigers.
Players will work in only helmets today, and Mullen said he’ll address some “base things” regarding the game plan.
“Half the practice is going to be dedicated to a game simulation for us where we simulate everything from how we get in the locker room to how we warm up,” he said.
A depth chart is due out soon, but putting that down on paper won’t settle all the position battles. Mullen called his depth chart a “fluid” one.
“If you have a bad day at practice, somebody else could jump in front of you,” he said. “You have a bad game, someone else could jump in front of you. I love competition, competition. It leads to improvement.”
