Murphree sworn in as new alderman for Houlka

By NEMS Daily Journal

HOULKA – Kimberly B. Murphree has been sworn in to her new position on the Houlka Board of Aldermen.
The seat was vacated with the removal of Thomas McNeil Jr. for failure to reveal felony convictions in Calhoun and Lee counties.
Following the court-ordered removal, a special election was held to fill the seat Feb. 17. Due to a tie for second place, a runoff was held with all three original candidates on the ballot.
In the March 2 runoff, Murphree earned 48 votes, Jerry Turner, 40, and Jimmy Kelly, 38.
