MUW TO HONOR TWO NEWSPAPER PUBLISHERS

Two Mississippi newspaper publishers will be honored today by the Mississippi University for Women.

Duane K. McCallister, president and publisher of the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, and Roland Weeks Jr., president and publisher of Gulf Publishing Co. Inc., publisher of The Sun Herald in Biloxi, will receive Silver Inkys, the university’s most prestigious journalism award given each year to men and women who have made significant contributions to journalism in the United States.

More than 150 high school communications students and their advisers will attend the 27th annual Ray A. Furr Workshop at the Cromwell Communication Center, according to the university.

The workshop is sponsored by the university’s Division of Business and Communication.

McCallister also is regional vice president of the Gannett Gulf Coast Newspaper Group, which includes newspapers in Hattiesburg, Jackson and Monroe, La.

Weeks is past president of the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association.
