TUPELO – Weather permitting, the Natchez Trace Parkway plans to conduct two controlled burns between Thursday and Saturday in Lee County.
The prescribed fires will be at mileposts 266 (headquarters) and 269-270 (Confederate gravesites).
During the burns, smoke warning signs will be placed along the parkway as a precaution. Motorists are advised to travel at a safe speed with headlights on when smoke is visible, and to be aware of park rangers, firefighting personnel and equipment along the roadway.
If visibility falls below 500 feet due to the smoke, the parkway may be temporarily closed.
