PHILADELPHIA, Miss. — The National Guard’s 298th Corps Support Battalion will be deployed to Afghanistan in late February.
First Lt. Anthony Burkett, commander of the unit’s headquarters detachment, told a civic club in Philadelphia that the soldiers will would train at Camp Shelby beginning Oct. 15 and wrap up training in December at Camp McCain near Grenada.
Burkett says the schedule calls for the guardsmen to report to Ft. Lewis, Wash., on Jan. 18 and arrive in Afghanistan no later than Feb. 22.
The Philadelphia-based unit serves as a command unit over several units across the state.
Burkett said they would be a send off on Jan. 17 for family and friends tentatively planned at the Neshoba Central High School gym.
