New Albany fire chief hanging up the helmet

NEW ALBANY — Longtime firefighter and New Albany fire chief Jeff Hale will hang up his turnouts Monday for the final time.

Mayor Tim Kent tells WTVA-TV that Hale turned in a letter Wednesday announcing he would retire from the post on Feb. 21.

Hale has 25 years of experience as a fire fighter, the last 2-½ years as chief in New Albany.

Before working in New Albany, Hale worked with the Southaven Fire Department for 23 years.

Kent says the next highest ranking officer in the department will assume control until city leaders have a chance to meet and discuss the process for naming the next chief.
