NEW ALBANY – Restaurant patrons may be able to have wine with Sunday their meals from 1 to 11 p.m. if the Mississippi Department of Revenue’s Alcoholic Beverage Control division approves the city’s request.
The Board of Aldermen voted to make the request in late July, but city officials have not yet received an answer, Mayor Tim Kent said.
Department of Revenue spokesman Kathy Waterbury said the process begins with appropriate documentation, progresses to staff review and is decided by the Commissioner of Revenue.
Under ABC rules, she said, Sunday sales are considered extended hours.
“If extended hours are approved, it could be as little as a week,” Waterbury said, “or as long as it takes.”
