NEW ALBANY – The mother of a 22-month-old child killed by an April 6 fire has been charged with manslaughter by culpable negligence.
Jennifer Taylor, 30, was injured in the fire that killed her daughter, Brayleigh Taylor, at their Albany Acres apartment in west New Albany. The mother was admitted to a Georgia burn center but checked herself out the same day.
“She was the sole provider of care for the child,” said New Albany Police Chief David Grisham. “We feel like she was negligent in her caretaker role.”
Grisham declined to give details about the alleged negligence.
Taylor was released from Union County Jail on $50,000 bond.
