CORINTH – Dale Bain was sworn in Monday as Alcorn County District 2 school board member to complete the unexpired term of his mother, Peggy Bain, who died Dec. 28.
Board attorney Jimmy Price administered the oath of office with other school board members and Bain’s family looking on.
“(Peggy Bain) leaves such a fine legacy,” said District 4 board member Mary Catherine Coleman, as she presented a plaque of appreciation to the family. “Be comforted in knowing how much joy you brought to her. She got a lot of pleasure out of serving the school district and the students.”
Peggy Bain had served on the school board for a year before she died suddenly a day after undergoing a successful heart procedure.
“We want to personally and publicly thank each of you,” said widower Roger Bain. “Just remember that our kids are our most important possessions. This is a good school system, and you have the opportunity to make it better.”
Bain participated in the vote to elect District 5 board member Randy Wilbanks as the new board president, assuming the role from District 3 board member Carroll Morton. Russ Nash representing District 1 was elected vice president and Morton secretary.
In addition to Bain, newly-elected Superintendent Gina Rogers Smith participated in the first school board meeting of her term.
