New Corinth animal shelter manager abruptly leaves job

CORINTH – The woman who began working as manager of the Corinth/Alcorn Humane Society shelter last week has left the position as of Wednesday.
Details of Cathy Strait’s departure from the position after less than two weeks on the job were not disclosed by board Chairwoman Lenoir Stanley.
“It is a personnel matter and I’m not at liberty to say anything more,” Stanley said.
She did confirm that Strait is no longer with the shelter, but the facility continues its normal operations “because we have a really good staff out there.”
Strait had been a volunteer at the shelter and reportedly had years of experience in shelter operations before being offered the manager’s job.
The humane society, a nonprofit organization that is jointly supported by the city of Corinth and Alcorn County, has recently sought an infusion of $50,000 to make it through the Sept. 30 fiscal year end.
Earlier this week the Board of Supervisors agreed they would work with the city to find a way to help the shelter, while also evaluating whether and how to keep the shelter operating.
The city board in its meeting this week also deferred a decision about the shelter’s funding request until board members can meet with county officials to discuss the matter.
