When Allen and Erin Sanders, the owners of Delta Steak Company, needed a new place to call home, they prayed about it. With the support of their pastor, Fish Robinson of Community Church, the husband and wife partnership was able to relocate their successful restaurant in Abbeville.

Located at 01 Business 7 North, across the street from the Abbeville Bank, the Sanders family and employees just opened up their new location this past Friday – a move brought about after a lease change at their old location on College Hill Road in Oxford.

Robinson had an idea for them: check out Abbeville.

“Our first thought, like everybody, was that it was so far, but after we left him for lunch we decided to drive out here,” Erin Sanders said. “Not only did we realize that it’s not that far, it was the right fit.”

The couple’s new landlord needed a tenant, and the Sanders needed a new home – one that was more rustic and fitting of the Delta.

“It really came together great,” Allen Sanders said. “It couldn’t have worked out better, I don’t think. It was meant to be.”

Outside of a new location, nothing else has changed on the menu that was first introduced to the general public in 2013. A Southern-style plate lunch, complete with three vegetables and a meat item, is served every day. There also are sandwiches and hamburgers on the new lunch menu, and some other things that will vary as time goes on.

“I think we were at the old location just long enough to create a good feel, but not too long to where it was uncomfortable for some people to have somebody move,” Erin said.

Moving to Abbeville opens the door to a new set of clients, especially those that don’t want to drive to Oxford just to eat lunch. Erin said some of the same people that live in Abbeville have been in for lunch and dinner.

One of the next additions for the new-look Delta Steak is a new bar and resort status that was just approved by the city’s board of aldermen. Beer and liquor will be served. The bar will be cozy, around 12 feet long, and is expected to have five or six seats.
