A Feb. 8 jury trial is set for Wendell Blount of Calhoun County, charged in the April 22 Trace Parkway death of a European cyclist.
His original trial date of Dec. 14 was changed by U.S. District Judge W. Allen Pepper Jr., who agreed with a defense motion that the case’s outcome could be compromised so near to the Christmas holidays.
The trial will be in Greenville.
Blount is accused of manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter while under the influence of morphine. He has pleaded not guilty.
If convicted, he faces up to 13 years in prison and $500,000 fine.
The cyclist’s family also has filed a civil lawsuit related to the death.
