New York man injured in car versus train in Hamilton

HAMILTON – A New York man was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle Thursday afternoon after a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train hit his Chevy Malibu at the railroad crossing on Stovall Crossing Road shortly after noon.

Jessie Thomas, 50, of Syracuse, N.Y, is being treated for non life-threatening injuries. According to Monroe County E911 director Bunky Goza, a 911 call was received at 12.37 p.m. regarding the accident.

The train hit the rear quarter of Thomas’ car, spinning it around 180 degrees. In addition to several local volunteer firefighters, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the accident.
