Nine dead in holiday accidents in Miss.

JACKSON — The Mississippi Department of Public Safety says 9,755 traffic citations were issued and nine people died over the Labor Day weekend on roads state troopers patrol.

There were 163 DUIs and 12 drug arrests reported during the holiday period that ran from 6 p.m. Friday through the end of Monday. There also were 331 reported seat belt and 107 child restraint violations.

In the 136 wrecks on interstates and state highways, 54 people were injured and nine people died. The Highway Patrol says each of the fatal wrecks involved only one person.
