No foul play suspected in fire death in Itawamba County

VAN BUREN – Itawamba County law enforcement is investigating an unusual death that reportedly occurred last week.
The body of Micha “Kim” Curtis, 76, of 6789 Hopewell Keyes Road in the Van Buren Community, was discovered in her backyard about 3:30 p.m. Friday. Deputies with the Itawamba County Sheriff’s Department responded to the neighbor’s 911 call and reported Curtis was dead when they arrived.
According to Itawamba County Sheriff Chris Dickinson, Curtis’ body had been completely burned. Her body was taken to Jackson for an autopsy.
Dickinson said Curtis’ death probably was not caused by foul play.
“The evidence at this point shows that there was no criminal activity involved in Curtis’ death,” he said. “There was nothing out of place inside or outside the house and no evidence of any other crime.”
The sheriff added that in situations with unusual deaths involved — even if no foul play is suspected — autopsies are always performed.
