TUPELO – In honor of Spay Day USA, the nonprofit Spay Inc. will offer discount sterilizations for cats through March.
Spay Day is celebrated nationwide Feb. 28.
“Our project will target cats, both male and female, as they tend to produce in large numbers during the spring of the year,” said organization spokeswoman Kathy Fealhaber. “We want to urge the community to stop the problem before it starts.”
Cat owners can get their pet spayed or neutered for $20 – a savings of $15 off the nonprofit’s regular price – if they sterilize three or more felines.
Dr. Don Rowan of the Baldwyn Veterinary Hospital will perform all the surgeries.
Spay Day was launched in 1995 by the Doris Day Animal League and Doris Day Animal Foundation and is celebrated throughout the nation with a series of events.
The Tupelo-Lee Humane Society also feted the occasion with its own discounts on cat sterilizations at its Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic.
Interested pet owners can call Ruth Shelton at (662) 869-9900 to schedule an appointment. There are no requirements on income or residency.
