Northeast Mississippi Community College announced a new partnership with Toyota in Blue Springs on Monday.

The TIGER Internship Program will combine three days of classroom instruction with two days of on-site work experience at an area manufacturing facility for $14 an hour.

It will benefit Northeast students with an interest in a career in manufacturing, as well as area industries, such as Toyota, Toyota suppliers and other manufacturers in the college’s five-county district, the school said in its press release.

Classes will be offered on Northeast’s Booneville campus in subjects including electricity, fluid power, mechanics, fabrication and robotics.

Upon completion, students will graduate with an associate’s degree as well as work experience.

“The TIGER Internship Program is designed to give students primarily in manufacturing career pathways the opportunity to apply the theories they learn in the classroom to a real work environment,” said Nadara Cole, NEMCC vice president of workforce training and economic development.

Information luncheons to discuss the program are scheduled in each of Northeast’s five counties. Officials will be at the New Albany campus on March 18, The People’s Bank Operation Center in Ripley on March 20, the Haney Union on the Booneville campus on March 21, the Homestead Restaurant in Iuka on March 25 and the Corinth campus on March 26. Each of those events begin at noon.
