BOONEVILLE – The Buildings and Grounds Committee at Northeast Mississippi Community College will make a recommendation next month on plans to construct a new athletic field house.
The committee met Tuesday before the college’s regular board meeting, said board member Bill Breedlove, and reviewed the architect’s drawings.
Plans have been scaled back from what was originally proposed to stay within a budget of less than $500,000, he said.
Coaches who will use the facility have been consulted and the plans contain all they need, but not the extras that had been discussed, said President Johnny Allen.
The construction cost is estimated to be about $250,000, with site preparation and furnishings expected to bring the final cost to about $450,000.
Allen said he also will meet with Booneville High School officials to discuss what is planned.
Since the school is across the street from the north end of the Northeast football field where the field house will be built, NEMCC will not break ground on the project until after both schools have completed the fall football season.
