Northeast Mississippi Community College’s girls softball team was traveling on its team bus on U.S. Highway 72 in Alcorn County when it caught fire Tuesday night.
According to Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Ray Hall, the bus was near the Tippah County line. He said all the occupants were able to get off the bus before it was gutted with fire.
Ricky Ford, the school’s executive vice president, said in a statement, “All of our kids are safe and back at school. We will assess the equipment lost in the morning and have discussions with our insurance provider to determine how we will get these items replaced. But the safety of our kids is paramount, and we’re happy they are back on campus.”
No other information was available late Tuesday night.
