MOOREHEAD – Northeast remained unbeaten as it opened North Division play with Thursday night’s 16-3 victory at Mississippi Delta.
It was all about the running game for the Tigers (3-0, 1-0), who rushed 48 times for 180 yards and managed just two net yards passing while surviving three interceptions.
Northeast held Delta (0-3, 0-1) to 148 total yards (146 rushing, 58 passing).
Delta led 3-0 with an early field goal and Northeast tied it up on its first possession with a 24-yard kick by Taylor Earhart. That score held up until the third quarter.
Northeast took control of the game in the second half with a 4-yard TD pass from Parks Frazier (Corinth) to Tres Houston in the third quarter and a 3-yard run by Michael Poole (Ripley) in the fourth.
Poole led the Tigers with 65 yards rushing on 15 carries; Jamarcus Goodloe added 51 yards on 12 carries.
Northeast freshman linebacker Eli Canton had a monster game, with 10 unassisted tackles, including 3 for losses of 20 yards, with half a sack.
The Tigers are home Thursday against Holmes (1-2, 1-0).
