Robert Lowery
BURTON – Robert Lowery, 82, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at home. He was born Jan. 7, 1930, to William Austin Lowrey and Mary South Lowrey. He was a member of New Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church and a Mason. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was an insurance adjuster with the Cotton Belt Insurance Company.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Jack Whitley and Bro. Ricky Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the New Lebanon Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home in Booneville is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Ernestine Lowery; one daughter, Robbie Lowery of Memphis; a stepson, Glenn Cunningham of Burton; three sisters, Justine Higgins of Memphis, Marie Davis of Kankakee, Ill., and Faye Green of Clinton; three Grandchildren, Holly and Haley Cunningham and Kristen Ledbetter.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine Lambert Lowery; his parents; two sisters, Peggy Brewer and Ivy Holder; and four brothers, Roy, Troy, Hoyet and Edwin Lowrey.

BREWER – William Scottie West, 23 months, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center in Memphis. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Holland Funeral Directors, Nettleton Chapel.
Kurt Crain
BIRMINGHAM – Kurt Bannon Crain, 47, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012. He was a graduate of W.A. Berry High School. He was an All-American linebacker at Auburn University, where he helped lead the team to the 1987 SEC Championship. Following college, he was drafted by Houston and played two seasons in the NFL with the Oilers and the Green Bay Packers. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Auburn and later was a member of Larry Blakeney’s staff at Troy. He was hired by Pat Sullivan to work on Sullivan’s TCU staff in 1992 and the next year returned to Auburn as a coach. Prior to joining the South Alabama staff in 2008, he was hired as an assistant coach for the All-America Football League team in Birmingham. He coached inside linebackers for three years at South Alabama before moving to coach the defensive line this season. He was a loving husband and father.
A memorial service was held Thursday, April 12, at Cottage Hill Baptist Church in Mobile, Ala. Funeral services will be today at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Birmingham. Visitation begins at 3:30 p.m., followed by a celebration of his life at 5:30 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Wenning Crain; three children, Jacob, Shelby and Blain; his mother, Mary Ann Crain; brother, Jonny; sister, Lynn Crain Stephens (David); and two nephews, Caleb and Collin.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.B. Crain; his nephew, Christopher; and his godfather, Denny Stradtman.

Rodney West
BALDWYN – Rodney West 42, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at his home in Summertown, Tenn. He was a supervisor with Bertolini. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball, softball and football. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and he loved to grill out with his family.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. William Copeland and Bro. Mark Tutor officiating. Burial will be in Kirkville cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Randa Stokes West of Baldwyn; four daughters, Adlie Kate West, Mollie Grace West, Bella West and Selah West; two sons, Landon West and Elijah West; his parents, Wayne and Willene Joslin of Baldwyn; two sisters, Harlene Conlee (Scott) of Pontotoc and Teresa Cooper (Brad Boyd) of Saltillo; four brothers, Kenneth West (Rose) of Loretto, Tenn., Randle West of Tupelo, Steve West (Sabrina) of Saltillo and Greg Joslin (Jackie) of Mantachie.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Wade and Blake West; and his grandparents, George and Ouida Lindsey, and Malone and Essie Joslin.
Pallbearers will be Tim Shelley, Tracy Chism, Gary Leathers, Kyle Lindsey, Rocky Smith and William Nabors.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jay West, Colyn West, Baily West, Colton Conlee, Lane Joslin and Logan Joslin.

Annie Sneed
TUPELO – Annie B. Sherer Sneed, 91, died Sunday, April 8, 2012, at her home in Tupelo. She was born June 7, 1920, to Andrew and Rosie Sherer in Lee County. She was a member of Ebernezer M.B. Church in Guntown and a domestic worker.
Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ebernezer M.B. Church with Minister David Sneed officiating. Burial will be in the Springhill Cemetery in Baldwyn. Agnew amp& Sons Funeral Home of Verona is in charge of arrangements.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and six brothers; one son-in-law, Tyrone McCambry; and one grandchild, Emma Jean Sneed.
Survivors include two daughters, Annie L. Sneed and Rosie Sneed McCambry, both of Tupelo; one son, David Sneed Sr. (Ruby Nell) of Tupelo; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time Saturday.

Davis Marsh III
GARLAND, Texas – James Davis Marsh III, 41, formerly of Memphis, died Monday, April 9, 2012, in Houston, Texas, in an automobile accident. He was born Dec. 23, 1970, in Memphis to Jim Marsh II and Nancy Albonetti. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School and the University of Memphis, where he played football and in his senior year earned a position as first string lineman. In his youth he loved swimming, running and cycling. He was a private investigator in the Dallas area and owned his own business. He had a deep love of the Lord and His scriptures and was joyful in donating his time to prison ministries. He enjoyed helping others and teaching children how to swim.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church of Tupelo with the Rev. Joe Bryan officiating. Burial will be in Harlan Cemetery near Carrollton. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his father, Jim Marsh II (Marian) of Nettleton; his mother, Nancy Albonetti (Ray) of Memphis; one brother, Weldon Marsh of Robins, Ga.; three aunts, Barbara Howell of Memphis, Linda Swindell of Athens, Tenn., and Debbie Taylor (Jackie) of Columbus; and one uncle, Mike Marsh of Colorado.
Pallbearers will be Jerry McGee, Chuck Moeller, Charlie Gardner, Mike Gowdy, Eron Benson, Jacky Taylor and Derick Herrell.
Honorary pallbearers will be George Putnam and Eddie Kelly.

TUPELO – Arletta B. Kilgore, 98, died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Traceway Nursing Home. She received her education in Mantee. She will be remembered best for being a devoted mother, grandmother and friend, and a person with a caring heart.
A life celebration service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the J.W. Porter Chapel with Elder Dean officiating. Burial will follow. Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her son, Thomas Jordan (Linda) Kilgore of Shannon; her niece, Jean Mimms; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

BATESVILLE – Charlie Pollard, 75, died Tuesday, April 10, 2010, at his residence in Batesville. A native of Quitman County, he was the son of Sylvester and Carrie Jones Pollard. He was a retired maintance man and a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. He love to work on cars and fix things around the house.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Baldwin Pollard of Batesville; four daughters, Mary Pollard of Sardis, Jeanette Dowdy, Darlene Dowdy and Gloria Dowdy all of Kankakee, Ill.; three sons, Derrick Pollard of Batesville, Willie Dowdy and David Dowdy, both of Kankakee; four sisters, Severia Sullivan, Lula Lee Pollard, Carrie Riley and Mattie Grover, all of Batesville; four brothers, Sylvester Pollard Jr. and James Pollard, both of Batesville, Marshall Pollard of Olive Branch and Arthur Pollard of Cordova, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

NEW ALBANY – Geneva Mae Bailey Smith, 89, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. She was born Aug. 29, 192, in New Albany to Hill Heard Bailey and Lottie Hall Bailey. She was a homemaker and a member of Temple Baptist Church in Myrtle.

SHANNON – Marilyn Fields, 51, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She graduated from Job Corps in 1978. She was a fun-loving person who enjoyed gardening, attending church, and spending time with family and friends.

COTTON PLANT – Dorothy Louise “Dot” Pernell Rowell, 76, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Union County Health and Rehab in New Albany. She was born Jan. 7, 1936, in Cotton Plant to Neely Pernell and Roxie Jennings Pernell. She was a longtime employee of Napa in Ripley and Master-Bilt in New Albany. She was a member of the of Academy Baptist Church, where she was active in the WMU.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. James A. Lewis and the Rev. Kenny Adair officiating. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Cemetery. United Funeral Service in New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Pernell Smith (Whitney) of Ecru; and two grandchildren, Hudson Pernell Smith and Kathryn Elizabeth Smith, both of Ecru.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Curtis Smith and Jimmy Rowell; and her daughter, Connie Denise Smith.

Jewel Sheffield
TUPELO – Jewel Cole Sheffield, 86, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at her residence after an extended illness. Born Feb. 20, 1926, in the Gilvo community, she was the daughter of George Dewey and Emma Lee Robinson Cole. She was raised in the Ballardsville community, where she lived the majority of her life until moving to Tupelo 23 years ago. A full-time homemaker, she enjoyed sewing, reading and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Pastor Robert Garland officiating. Burial will be in Gilvo Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Milton Sheffield of Tupelo; three daughters, Brenda Gammill of Tupelo, Sherry McCarty (Jim) of Tupelo and Kathy Fowler (John) of Saltillo; two sisters, June Freeman of Temperance, Mich., and Joyce Burke (Dennis) of Greencastle, Penn.; two brothers, Jerry Cole (Cindy) of West Bend, Wis., and John Cole (Sandy) of New Holstein, Wis.; three grandchildren, Matt McCarty (Dawn) of Tupelo, J. BRUCE – Billy Clark “Cannonball” Cannon, 73, died Sunday, April 8, 2012, at his home. He was born Aug. 7, 1938, in Bruce. He was a member of Bruce First Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was retired from the Army Corps of Engineers.

MARIETTA – Dinah Joann Smith, 45, died suddenly Wednesday April 11, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was a graduate of Mantachie High School and Itawamba Community College. She was a purchasing director and buyer over the past few years for several different businesses, including Acco, Thomas Industries, Max Homes and Allen White. She was a photographer and a gourmet cook. She enjoyed flower gardening and being around her family, especially her grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Murlin Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Sandy Springs Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas P. Smith of Marietta;two sons, Jason A. Smith (fiancampée, Amanda Taylor) of Ryans Well community and Justin A. TAYLOR – Maggie Ree Tyson Mitchell, 83, died Friday, April 6, 2012, at her residence in Taylor. A native of Lafayette County, she was the daughter of Preston and Elmira Brown Tyson. She was a member of Mt. Hope M.B. Church in Taylor, where she served as an usher, president of the mission board, choir member and Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Taylor Court No. 95 of the Heroines of Jericho. She was an instructor in the 4-H Club, a member Taylor Community Development Club and a volunteer at Weems Headstart. She was known in the community as an advocate for peace.
Services will be at 11a.m. Saturday at the Tallahatchie-Oxford Missionary Baptist Association Building in Oxford. The Rev. James Hull will officiate. Burial will be in Yocona Cemetery in Taylor. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Mitchell of Taylor; three daughters, Lilla Mitchell of Taylor, Laura Igwike of New Orleans, La., and Bettie Pearson of Oxford; three sons, Glen Mitchell of Memphis, Willie Mitchell and Gary Mitchell, both of Taylor; one sister, Georgia Bryant of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, L.J. EVANS, Ga. – Jessie Claudine Lewis Tollison, 88, died Thursday, April 5, 2012, in Evans, Ga. She was born March 11, 1924, in Bethel Springs, Tenn., to Louola Garner Lewis Finley and Henry Bell Lewis. She was a former resident of Baldwyn.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Waters Funeral Home in Baldwyn with Dr. Gary Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Prentiss Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include one son, Gordon Tollison of Bay St. Louis; two sisters, Gladys Robertson of Henderson, Tenn., and Francis Holland of Savannah, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Deborah Tollison Johnson of Evans, Ga., and Greg Tollison of Jackson, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren, Zach Johnson, Joey Tollison and Jillian Tollison.

WEST POINT – Josie Josette Henderson, 41, died Monday, April 9, 2012, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at UFCW Local 1991 Union Hall. Burial will be in Yeates Cemetery. Carter’s Mortuary Services of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
