Leroy Wages Jr.
CORINTH – Leroy Wages Jr., 75, died Sunday, April 18, 2010, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Corinth. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park.
Visitation will continue from noon until service time today.

Lavada E. Tackett
PONTOTOC – Lavada E. Tackett, 88, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Pontotoc after an extended illness. She was born Feb. 28, 1922, to David Duckworth and Sarena Ann Davis Duckworth. She was married to Willie Tackett for many years before his death. She worked as a seamstress at Futorian Furniture for many years before retiring. She was a prayerful woman for her family. She enjoyed quilting and her favorite food, barbecue pizza. While in Graceland Care Center of Pontotoc, she participated in various activities, loved singing and the church services. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Shannon.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home with Bro. Dean Moody and Bro. Robert Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Pontotoc.
She is survived by one daughter, Suzy Collins (Roy) of Shannon; one son, Bobby Tackitt (Diane) of Pontotoc; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; three sons, Shirley, Billy Ray and Jerry Tackett; one granddaughter, Phyllis Tackett; one great-great-grandchild, Colton Tackett; one sister, Bessie Brandon; and one brother, Rufus Duckworth.
Pallbearers will be Kerry Tackitt, Jamie Wilson, Ben Ellis, Jeff Tackitt, Little Jerry Tackitt and Shannon McElwain. Honorary pallbearers will be Hunter Tackitt, Danny Arnold, Mark Eddington and Corey Tackitt.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Billy Wayne Spencer
CORINTH – Billy Wayne Spencer, 60, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brush Creek Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home of Corinth is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will continue from noon to service time today at the church.
Charles F. Thomas
CORINTH – Funeral services for Charles F. Thomas, 79, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Farmington Baptist Church Cemetery. McPeters Funeral Home of Corinth is in charge of the arrangements.
Una Vernell Rayburn
RATLIFF – Una Vernell “U.V.” Rayburn, 82, died on Sunday, April 18, 2010, at The Meadows Nursing Facility. She had a “green thumb” and really enjoyed flowers and her dog, Toby. She was a member of Center Star Methodist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Ray Hall officiating. The eulogy will be delivered by Emily White. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Gassaway (Jerry) of Fairview and Patsy Davidson of Plantersville; one son, Larry Rayburn (JeanAnn) of Ratliff; one sister, Evelyn Sandlin (Guy) of Hamilton, Ala.; one brother, W.B. Dees (Madgelene) of Red Bay, Ala.; grandchildren, Randy Gassaway (Kay), Teresa White (Dale), Jason Gassaway (Kim), Patricia Ross, Penny McNally, Laura Rayburn, Amy Rayburn and Daniel Rayburn; great-grandchildren, Emily White, Gracie White, Megan Gassaway, Brady Gassaway, Stephanie Johnson and Dakota Ross.
She was preceded in death by her husband, L.D. Rayburn, and her parents, Will and Leaffer Warren Dees.
Pallbearers will be Randy Gassaway, Jason Gassaway, Dale White, Bobby Rayburn, Rickey Sullins and Guy Posey.
Gertrude Barnett
LUCEDALE – James Gertrude Barnett, 94, formerly of Houston, died Sunday, April 18, 2010, in Lucedale. She was born July 27, 1915, in Houston to Sydney and Susie Johnson. She was a homemaker and a member of Thorn Church of God.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Houston with Bro. Frank Samples officiating. Burial will be in Ellzey Cemetery in Vardaman.
Survivors include two daughters, Jimmie Hurst (Robert) of Hernando and Sue Doggett (David) of Lucedale; three sons, Sydney Barnett (Charlotte), Curtis Barnett (Louise) and Joe Barnett (Mary), all of Houston; 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Barnett; and two sons, James Royce Barnett and Jackie Barnett.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Tim Oxendine, Johnny Lucius, Andy Barnett, Chris Barnett, Andrew Lucius and Rodney Barnett.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Terrance Webb
HOULKA – Terrance Wayne Webb, 40, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at his home. He was born April 26, 1969, to David Max Webb and Brenda C. McDerrent in Beria, Ohio. He was retired from the Mississippi Forestry Commission, where he worked for 15 years. He lived in Pontotoc County for the past 15 years. He was a member of Toxish Baptist Church in Pontotoc.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Mortimer Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Rusty Miller officiating. Burial will be in Ingomar Cemetery.
Survivors include his mother, Brenda C. Stout; one brother, Reid Flint (Penny) of Houlka; one sister, Tina Galloway Potts of Houlka; two nephews, Parker and Adam Flint; two great-nephews, Daykoto Neal, Isaiah Hamilton; two nieces, Brandy Hamilton (Derck) and Amanda Neal (Brad) of Pontotoc; three great-nieces, Adriana Hamilton, Jazmin Hamilton and Kirstin Neal.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time today.
Martin Essary
DECATUR, Ala. – Martin Ray Essary, 71, died Sunday, April 18, 2010, at his home in Decatur, Ala.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Fellowship Baptist Church in Decatur, Ala.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from noon to service time Wednesday.

GUNTOWN – Luther Wayne Phelps, 74, died Friday, April 16, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Services with military honors will be at 11 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Guntown. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery in Shiloh, Tenn. Magnolia Funeral Home of Corinth is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time today at the church.

OXFORD – Sarah Payton, 76, died Friday, April 16, 2010, at Graceland Care Center in Oxford.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Tallahatchie-Oxford Missionary Baptist Association Building in Oxford. Burial will be in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

VERONA – LaRue Ford, 88, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at the Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks in Verona. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Pickle Funeral Home of Amory. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

RIPLEY – Pansy Crawford Meeks, 69, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at the Tippah County Hospital in Ripley. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by McBride Funeral Home in Ripley. Visitation will be form 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ripley Church of Christ.
Richard Galvin
OSCODA, Mich. – Richard Galvin, 74, died Saturday, April 17, 2010.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Galvin of Oscoda, Mich., and two sons, Richard Galvin of Illinois and Bryan Galvin of Michigan.

Edgar Simmons
BOONEVILLE – Edgar Frank Simmons, 57, died Saturday, April 17, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill M.B. Church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Patterson Memorial Chapel of Corinth is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Oak Hill M.B. Church.
Jack Murphree
FULTON – Jack Murphree died Monday, April 19, 2010, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Senter Funeral Home in Fulton.
Mary Jane Nethery
TUPELO – Mary Jane Nethery of Tupelo died Sunday, April 18, 2010. Miss Nethery was born in West Point on Oct. 25, 1930. She was the daughter of George William Nethery Jr., a native of Waco, and Frances Tomlison Nethery, originally from Louisville. She had one brother, George Nethery III. She was graduated from Tupelo High School.
Miss Nethery was a 1952 graduate and later Trustee of Blue Mountain College. She was named 2001 Alumna of the Year. She held degrees from Fuller Seminary and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. After teaching briefly, she was Director of Young Woman’s Auxiliary for Woman’s Missionary Union of Texas from 1959-1965. Joy Fenner, former Executive Director-Treasurer of WMU of Texas, served with Miss Nethery during those years and said of her, “She was very detailed in her planning and held expectations of excellence.” She encouraged leaders who remain active today. Nethery served as Dean of Women at Mary Hardin-Baylor University. Her career culminated as Executive Director Treasurer of Tennessee Woman’s Missionary Union 1967-1984. Former Tennessee WMU President, Carol Pharris identified a phrase that Nethery used in leadership challenges, “Aim for the ideal and you will reach the real.”
During retirement she gave volunteer service to the national WMU Foundation raising funds throughout Mississippi for the support of worldwide women’s projects and scholarships. The Kay Cassibry Endowment Fund supported by WMU women of Mississippi ranks second largest in the state WMU endowments in the SBC. The President of the WMU Foundation, David George, wrote “I thank God for her passion for her Lord, for Christ’s mission and for insuring that WMU will be here for future generations.”
Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. David Eldridge officiating. Burial will be in Waco, Texas.W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
