Lois Shumpert
BOONEVILLE – Lois Shumpert, 62, died Aug. 21, 2010, at Magnolia Regional Health Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Patterson Memorial Chapel.
JoAnn Sims
BOONEVILLE – JoAnn W. Sims, 74, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at Riley Hospital in Meridian.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery. Booneville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will continue until 1:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Hattie Collums
HOULKA – Hattie Mae Collums, 90, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at her home. She was born May 2, 1920, in Calhoun County to Walter and Caldonia Sprayberry. She was a retired factory worker and a Baptist.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Schooner Valley Baptist Church in Houlka with Bro. Ray Hamblin and Bro. Linn Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Collums Cemetery in Calhoun County. Southern Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Jimmie Hanley (Thomas) of Houlka; two sons, Sherman Collums (Linda) of Pontotoc and David Collums of Houlka; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Collums; one daughter, Jeannie Settlemoir; and one son, Bobby Collums.
Pallbearers will be Van McCammon, Wayne McCammon, Bill McCammon, Kenny Collums, Kelly Collums, J.B. Collums, Danny Reynolds and Thomas Pittman.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the church.

Dennis Sartin
GOLDEN – Dennis Ray Sartin, 60, died Aug. 21, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was Born Oct. 25, 1949, in Haleyville, Ala. to Roy and Lorene Parr Sartin. He was retired from the U.S. Army. He served with the 101 Airborn in Vietnam. He was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. J.D. Sartin officiating. The eulogy will be delivered by his children. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Bethel Cemetery near Haleyville. Senter Funeral Home of Fulton is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one son, James Nicholas Sartin of Golden; four daughters, Laurie Sartin of Tremont, Karen Boone of Cincinnati, Ohio, Carrie Self of Red Bay and Charity Aters of Tremont; four grandchildren, Sam Webb Jr., Carolyn Marie Aters, Brittney Aters and Austin Self; and three sisters Janice (Billy) Moore of Hamilton, Ala., Sharon (Gerald) Tucker of Fairview and Diane (Eddie) Underwood of Jena, La.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn Sartin in March of 2010; one grandson, Andrew Sartin; and two brothers, Jerry and Terry Sartin.
Pallbearers will be Lee Sartin, Greg Moore, Jason Moore, Jeremy Underwood, Andy Roberts and Danny Aters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Robert Thorne
GOLDEN – Robert Thorne, 49, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at his home. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Deaton Funeral Home of Belmont.
Lyman Greene
MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – Lyman H. Greene, 88, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at Cypress Cove in Muscle Shoals, Ala. He was born Dec. 5, 1921, in Belmont. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Following the war, he moved his family to the Chicago, Ill. area. He retired from Johns Manville in Waukegan, Ill. and moved “back home” to Alabama in 1986.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay. Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery in Belmont. Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Elizabeth Abernathy Greene; two daughters, Nell Anthony (Pete) and Sue Dempsey (Bob); beloved children of Elizabeth, Mike Abernathy (Patty) and Regina Parker (Steve); 10 grandchildren, Jeff Anthony (Cheryl), Scott Anthony and fiancampée, Barbara, Steve Anthony (Becky), Mike Anthony (Jessica), Jim Troxel, Kristen Abernathy, Michael Abernathy, Karen Abernathy, Ben Parker and Amy Parker; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Farrar; one brother, Hubert Greene; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Dempsey Greene.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until noon Wednesday at the funeral home.
Dorothy Rudasill
SALTILLO – Dorothy Bishop Rudasill, 77, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born Jan. 14, 1933, in Houston to Smith Shaw Bishop and Eula Mae Gann Bishop. She was a homemaker and attended First United Methodist Church of Saltillo. She enjoyed the Saltillo Senior Citizen Center and participated in the activities there.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Southern Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tim Green and the Rev. Waymon Betts officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery. Southern Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Richard Rudasill (Angie) of Pontotoc; one daughter, Barbara Brown (Todd) of Saltillo; and four grandchildren, Kelsey Reynolds, Spencer Rudasill, Nathan Rudasill and Matthew Rudasill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dyer, who died in 2005; her parents; one sister, Mary Jean Robbins; and one granddaughter, Meagan Rudasill.

Mildred Criddle
VAN VLEET – Mildred Marie Criddle, 75, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, which was her and her husband’s wedding anniversary. She was born Nov. 20, 1934, in Shannon to Jim and Nanny Lou Phillips. She was a Baptist.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Arbor Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jason Franklin officiating. Burial will be in Arbor Grove Cemetery. Southern Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include four daughters, Sara Rutherford (Jimmy) of Shannon, Pat Word (William) of Houston, Linda Summers (Jerry) of Fulton and Sandy Shoemaker (Kent) of Van Vleet; nine grandchildren, Jim, Lee, Leslie, Chad, Tara, Adrian, Lindsey, Samantha and Kathryn; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Wayne Phillips (Dot) and Kenneth Ray Phillips (Angie) of Tupelo; and two sisters, Ruth Funderburk of Eggville and Shirley Parker of New Albany.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Lee Criddle; her parents, Jim and Nanny Lou Phillips; one grandchild, Michael Summers; one great-grandchild, Maddie Rutherford; five brothers, Leon, Chuck, Len, Jimmy and David Phillips; and one sister, Anne McMurry Moreland.
Pallbearers will be her sons-in-law, Jimmy Rutherford, William Word, Jerry Summers and Kent Shoemaker; and her grandsons, Jim Rutherford, Lee Rutherford, Chad Galloway and Adrian Shoemaker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Doss and Richard Owens.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m Tuesday at the funeral home.

BRUCE – James Larry “Breed” King, 59, died Aug. 21, 2010, in Banner. He was born April 23, 1951, in Bruce. He was employed by Weyerhaeuser in Bruce and worked in the shipping department. He was a member of Mt. Comfort Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter; hunting was his passion in life and gave him so much joy.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Will Turner officiating and the Rev. W.R. Harrelson assisting. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce is in charge of arrangements.
