Sherry Harisis
HOUSTON – Sherry Denise Harisis, 46, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at her residence in Houston. She was born May 25, 1964, in Little Rock, Ark., to Roy Woods and Patricia Franklin Woods. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Parkway Baptist Church in Houston with Bro. Randy Rinehart officiating. Burial will be in Houston Cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, George Harisis from Houston; her mother, Patricia Franklin Woods; one daughter, Savany Harisis of Houston; two sons, Mihaly Harisis of Houston and Dimytry Harisis of Youngstown, Ohio; and one sister, Tamura Lynn Castro of West Memphis, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Woods.
Visitation will be from noon to service time today at Parkway Baptist Church.

WEST POINT – Annette Stevenson, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at Dugan Memorial Nursing Home.

Ara Pearl Amerson
BURNSVILLE – Ara Pearl Amerson, 86, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at her residence. She was a lover of Christ and a member of the Church of Christ since 1951. She was a lifelong homemaker and loving mother.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Berea Church of Christ. Jim Estes and John Hardwick will officiate. Interment will follow in Little Flock Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, John E. Amerson of Burnsville; one son, Tony E. Amerson of Hernando; one daughter, Mary Jo Ott of Henagar, Ala.; and three grandchildren, James Chisolm of Greenwood, and Brent Amerson and Daisy May Amerson, both of Esparto, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Enoch Ulysses and Oma Ann DeFore Shackelford; and a sister, Lorene Carter.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Calton, James Lovelace, Rick Wixom, John Parsons, Ray South and Ben South.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Berea Church of Christ.

CALHOUN CITY – Sallie Virginia Hamilton, 79, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at the Obion County Nursing Home in Union City, Tenn. She was born Jan. 14, 1931, in Calhoun County. She was a homemaker and a member of Reedy’s Chapel Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Reedy’s Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include two sisters, Inez Phillips of Bruce and Burnie Phillips of Tupelo; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Fillmore Hamilton and Maude Blanch Hamilton, and a nephew, David Phillips.

Collins Porter
NEW ALBANY – Homer Collins Porter Jr., 83, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at Dogwood Plantation in New Albany. He was born Jan. 12, 1927, in New Albany to Homer Collins Porter Sr. and Lutie Hall Porter. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Italian campaign. He was a lifelong member of New Albany First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a Rotarian. He was a faithful blood donor for the American Red Cross.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at New Albany First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in the New Albany City Cemetery. United Funeral Service in New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by a son, Ted Trussell Porter of New York, N.Y.; and three nieces, Marilyn Witcher (Larry) of Tupelo, and Betty Lou Barkley (Dr. Tommy) and Beverly Kitchen (Charles), both of New Albany.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Corrie May Bennett; and a nephew, Larry Bennett.
Pallbearers will be Ross Barkley, David Reed, Hunter Kitchens, Taylor Kitchens, Reed Kitchens, Stefan Witcher, Jay Witcher, Bennett Witcher, Zachary Bennett and Tyler Bennett.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time today at the New Albany First Baptist Church.
In honor of Mr. Porter, United Funeral Service Inc. will fly the flag of the U.S. Army at the funeral home during visitation and service.

BARTAHATCHIE – Edna Rooks, 88, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at River Place Nursing Center in Amory. She was born Sept. 15, 1922, to Mark Hawkins and Geneva Hill Hawkins in Ecru. She lived most of her life in Monroe County. She retired as a seamstress from Hamilton Garment Plant. She was a member of Bartahatchie Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today in the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Bro. Julian Thompson and Bro. Philip Lindsey officiating. Burial will be in Lockhart Cemetery.
Survivors include two brothers, Leonard Hawkins and wife, Dale, and Winford Hawkins and wife, Wilma, all of Ecru; a son-in-law, Jeff Box of the Bartahatchie community; three grandchildren, Keith Box and wife, Jennifer, Tammie Box, and Christie Maclaren and husband, Brad; four great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Box, Alivia Box, Camryn Maclaren and Noah Maclaren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Earl Rooks; one daughter, Pamela Box; three brothers, Earnest, James and Allen Hawkins; and two sisters, Ruby Graham and Mary Graham.
Pallbearers will be Tony Rooks, Patrick Rooks, Tony Rooks, Jr., Ken Jones, Tommy Murphy and Brian Guin.

Sue Collins
SHANNON – Mattie Sue Phillips Collins, 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at The Griffith Green House, United Methodist Senior Services, after an extended illness. She was born May 21, 1925, in Chickasaw County to Reuben and Virgie Ashcraft Phillips. She attended school at Shannon, where she lived most of her adult life. A member of Shannon United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She worked for various furniture manufacturers before retiring from PeopLoungers. She enjoyed reading, especially studying the Bible.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Shannon Cemetery with Rev. Chris McAllily officiating. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will follow the service at the gravesite.
She is survived by two daughters, Nan Tate and husband, Mike, of Brewer, and Jane Clock and husband, Darrell, of Shannon; three grandchildren, Kevin Tate (Amy) of Tupelo, Lyle Tate of Starkville and Jesse Clock (Bridgette) of Shannon; four great-grandchildren, Avery Tate and Walker Tate, both of Tupelo, Danielle Clock of Monzanola, Colo., and Jessica Clock of Shannon; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Phillips of Brewer; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon Collins, on Aug. 16, l988; and a brother, Riley Phillips, on June 11, 2010.

HOLLY SPRINGS – Tony A. Motton, 53, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at Alliance Health Care. He was born Oct. 4, 1957, in Booneville to Alfred Motton and Sarah Rucker Motton.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel in Holly Springs with the Rev. Dwight Rucker officiating. Burial will be in bowens Cemetery.
Survivors include his daughter, Shanell Lee Ann Sharp of Potts Camp; his mother, Sarah Bean; a brother, Michael Bean of Holly Springs; and a sister, Barbara Smith of St. Louis, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Motton.

HAMILTON – Viola Hearn West, 75, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. She was born Jan. 17, 1935, to Henry Sherd Hearn and Martha Ann Scallions Hearn in Indianola. She lived most of her life in Monroe County. She retired as a seamstress from Hamilton Garment Plant. She was a member of Hamilton Church of God.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Bro. Jack O’Mary and Bro. Terry Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Center Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Earl West of Hamilton; three sons, Kenny West and wife, Linda, of Hamilton, Danny West and wife, Kathy, of Vernon, Ala., and Steven West and wife, Susan, of Hamilton; two sisters, Matt Ritchie and husband, Eugene, of Griffin, Ga., and Emogene Watford of Heber Springs, Ark.; one brother, David Hearn and wife, Diane, of Columbus, Ga.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and three sisters.

Mattie Ruth Tabler
KIRKVILLE – Mattie Ruth Tabler, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at her home in the Kirkville community. She was born Nov. 11, 1925. She worked at American Motors for 24 years in Kenosha, Wis., where she lived for 37 years before coming back to Mississippi.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ozark Methodist Church with Bro. Joe Coggins officiating. Burial will be in Kirkville Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Paul Tabler of Kirkville; one daughter, Janice (Matti) Salmi of Pleasant Prairie, Wis; grandchildren, Jeremy (Christine) Salmi of Grayslake, Ill., and Scott (Yasmin) Salmi of Chicago; four sisters, Avanell Bishop of Marietta, Jean Sheffield of Kenosha, Wis., Bobbie Harbor of Guntown and Peggy Scruggs of El Paso, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Idella Gardner; an infant twin daughter; three brothers, Ellis Gardner, E.W. “Buck” Gardner and Charlie Gardner; and a sister, Joan Sheffield.
Pallbearers will be Matti Salmi, Jeremy Salmi, Scott Salmi, Larry Bishop, Jerry Bishop, Jimmy Tabler, Billy Tabler, Phil Harbor and Kacey Harbor.
The body will lie in state at the church for two hours prior to the service today.

ASHLAND – Edna Jean Renfro Alberson, 79, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at the Tippah County Hospital Nursing Home in Ripley. She was born Nov. 9, 1931, in Memphis to Autry Cleetus and Joycye Peeler Renfro. She was a homemaker and a member of Blackwell Church of Christ.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with Minister Garry Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Ashland Church of Christ Cemetery in Ashland.
Survivors include one daughter, Cecilia Bouchillon (Jerry) of Collierville, Tenn.; one son, Connie Alberson (Connie) of Ashland; two sisters, Frankie Sims of Little Rock, Ark., and Patricia Olsen (Skip) of Fennville, Mich.; one brother, Robert G. Renfro of Ashland; four grandchildren, Rebekah Nichols (Tim) of Collierville, Tenn., Jeff Bouchillon (Allison) of Memphis, Brandon Alberson of Senatobia and Brenna Alberson of Tupelo; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Nichols and Bailee Bouchillon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Darol Alberson; her parents; and two brothers, Joe Neal Renfro and Dan Renfro.
Pallbearers will be Bob Renfro, Eddie Alberson, Neil Alberson, James Mize, Galon Hunt and Stanley Rolfe.

PONTOTOC – Dennis Ray Wallace, 65, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He worked for the Pontotoc Police Department and for Pontotoc Butane before becoming disabled. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Kevin Wallace and Glen Washington officiating. Burial will be in the Pontotoc City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Nelda Wallace; three sons, Chris (Michelle), Greg (Cassandra) and Jason, all of Pontotoc; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel (Bobby) Forman and Bobbie Nell (Bobby) Ferguson, all of Pontotoc; a sister-in-law, Janie Wallace of Pontotoc; a brother- and sister-in-law, Linda and Jim Hankins of Clinton, Tenn.; his mother-in-law, Mary Nell Gossett Hight of Clinton, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Leo “Bill” Wallace; his mother, Ona Mae Wallace; a sister, Ethel Mae Pierce; and a brother, Leo Wallace.

ABERDEEN – Lula Pearl Wilson, 97, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at her home.

Glenn Criddle
CALHOUN CITY – Glenn Richard Criddle, 70, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis. He was born June 24, 1940, in Vardaman. He was a member of Youngs Chapel Methodist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Vardaman United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harold Robertson and the Rev. John Warren officiating. Burial will be in Elzey Cemetery at Vardaman. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Vardaman is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Glenn Richard Criddle Jr. of Mississippi; three sisters, Joyce House of West Virginia, and Myrtle Morris and Carolyn Williams, both of Calhoun City; one brother, Jimmy Noel Criddle of Vardaman; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noel Willie Criddle and Josephine Young Criddle; three brothers, George Criddle, Donald Criddle and Gerald Criddle; a niece, Tammy Cooper.
Pallbearers will be Aubrey Criddle, Doyle Criddle, David Hood, Jerry Howell, David Marshall and Keith Neal.

Bob Narmour
GUNTOWN – Bob Narmour, 72, retired mechanic, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a retired mechanic and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora. Burial will be in the Sapa Cemetery in Webster County. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by two sons, Robert (Melinda) Narmour of Guntown and Casey Narmour of Mathiston; a brother, Lou Narmour of Brick, N.J.; and five grandchildren, Olivia, Cannon and Tanner Narmour of Guntown, and Matthew and Kinsey Narmour of Jackson.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

TUPELO – Johnella Payne Young, 64, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at her residence. She was born Nov. 11, 1946, in Lee County. She was a member of Poplar CME Church in Saltillo.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Poplar CME Church in Saltillo with Rev. Eric Newberry officiating. Burial will be at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery in Saltillo, Agnew amp& Sons Funeral Home of Verona is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Rafaela Young of Tupelo; two sons, Michael Young and John Young of Tupelo; three sisters, Dovie Wilson, Judy Payne and Loretta (Pat) Payne, all of Tupelo; two brothers, Charles Payne and Thomas Payne, both of Tupelo; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Edward Young; her parents, John Payne and Easter Griffin Payne; one sister, Cora Lee (John) Witherspoon; and two brothers, Jimmy Payne and Robert Payne.

BYHALIA – Laterrica Monique Johnson, 23, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville, Tenn. She was born Oct. 30, 1987, in Georgia. She was employed at McDonald’s in Collierville, Tenn.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Royal Chapel CME Church on Hwy. 72. Burial will be in the Royal Chapel Cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two children, Avery Johnson and Alona Miller; her parents, Tony Cole and Donna Johnson; her brothers, Ferrell Smith, Contrell Smith and Brandon Luellen, all of Byhalia, and Terry Palmer II, Laterryl Palmer and Latrael, all of Florida; and a sister, Aniyah Cole of Moscow, Tenn.

Ovellar Johnson
OKOLONA – Services for Ovellar Smith Johnson, 90, will be at noon Saturday at Darden Chapel M.B. Church. The Rev. Anthony Simmons will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Grove East Cemetery. Williams Memorial of Okolona is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Johnson was born June 7, 1920, to the Rev. Benjamin Smith and Arthler Cook Smith. She was a member of Darden Chapel M.B. Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, youth director, choir director and a member of the Mother Board. She was an instructor, working in private homes.
Survivors include one daughter, Jernell Brown of Richfield, Minn.; two sons, Eddie James Johnson (Delois) and Carnell Johnson (Ruby), all of Okolona; six sisters, Almenthal Moore of Okolona, Elvora Roberson of Verona, Juanita Kyle of South Bend, Ind., Bernice Whitley of Kalamazoo, Mich., Vernell Williams of Detroit, Mich., and Ollie M. Turner (Wilber) of South Bend; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Johnson; and her parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

LAMAR – Gary Ross Sexton, 53, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at his home in Lamar.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Lamar Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Lamar United Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
