STARKVILLE – Barney Tyson Wallis, 77, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at the Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jumpertown Cemetery at Booneville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Polly Drewery
RIPLEY – Elsie Pauline “Polly” Drewery, 88, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at her residence in Tumbling Shoals, Ark. She was born Jan. 9, 1921, to Walter Bryan Thrasher and Lizzie Mae Edna Duncan Thrasher. She was a retired child care worker and a member of Sugar Loaf Baptist Church in Heber Springs.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Lloyd Blanton officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy South (Lindsay) of Tumbling Shoals, Ark.; two sons, Larry Drewery (Debbie) of Lakeland, Tenn., and Sammy Drewery (Glenda) of Hernando; three sisters, Bertie Mae Mauney of Corinth, Ilene Drewery of Ripley and Annie Elora McNeer of Amarilla, Texas; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Drewery; her parents; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
Pallbearers will be Larry Drewery, Sammy Drewery, Lindsay South, Michael Drewery, Chris Drewery and Randy Mayall Jr.

Joe Rutledge
WALNUT – Joe Wayne Rutledge, 78, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born June 12, 1931, to Lester Rutledge and Nora Wilbanks Rutledge. He was a Methodist. He worked 28 years for Wonder Snack in maintenance and 18 years for Tennessee State Correction Facility in maintenance. He was a Scottish Rite and a Shriner. He served in the United States Marine Corps.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jay Biedenharn officiating. Burial will be in Camp Ground United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn R. Rutledge of Walnut; one sister, Melba Luna of Ripley; five nieces, Johna Moore, Debra Kennedy, Shelia York, Hazel Curry and Tracey Luna; two nephews, Frankie Simpson and Alvin Shelby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Blanch Black and Edna Shelby.
Pallbearers will be Frankie Simpson, Tommy York, David Kennedy, Wade Moore, Kelton Melton and Carey Ragan.

Barbara Mabry
ABERDEEN – Barbara Ellen Simmons Mabry, 74, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at her residence in Aberdeen. She was born October 26, 1935, to Henry Clay Simmons and Virginia Boyd Simmons in Hamilton. She was a lifelong resident of Monroe County. She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1954. She was the administrator of the Monroe County Rest Home for 28 years. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. She cherished the time she spent with the numerous churches that visited the county home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with the Rev. John Maxey, the Rev. David Westmoreland, the Rev. Jack Inmon and the Rev. Lloyd Minor officiating. Burial will be in New Prospect Cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Ginger Evans and husband, Mickey, and Nancy Wilson and husband, Roy, all of Aberdeen, and Brenda Westmoreland and husband, David, of Caledonia; one sister, Joyce House of Hamilton; one sister-in-law, Betty Simmons of Hamilton; eight grandchildren, Angie Shackelford, Tony Shackelford, Heather Hunt, Adam Hunt, Jennifer Evans, Leann Westmoreland, Shelly Westmoreland and Michael Evans; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Grimes, Austin Shackelford and Allie Evans; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Jacquline Roselle of Aberdeen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years, James Earl Mabry; four brothers, Henry Clay Simmons Jr., Allen Earl Simmons, Houston Malone and Basil Malone; three sisters, Lillian Summerford, Irene Hood and Beatrice Simmons.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today at the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

WEST POINT – George Washington Edwards, 78, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at his home.

Gussie Phillips
WEST POINT – Gussie Hampton Phillips, 96, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at Dugan Memorial Home. She was born on June 4, 1913, in Chickasaw County to Johnny Hampton and June Lancaster. She was a member of First Baptist Church in West Point and retired co-owner of Jamp&P Fence Co.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with Rev. Dale Funderburg officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point.
She is survived by two stepdaughters, Ann Miller of West Point and Ona Pike of Millstatd, Ill.; one grandchild, Micky Miller of West Point.
She was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Jean Murch; her parents; and two brothers, O.L. Hampton and Featherstone Hampton.
Pallbearers will be Robbie Robinson, Marvin Turnipseed, Walter Newell, Stanley Spradling, Elvis Strickland and Doug Hannah. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. T.N. Braddock, Dr. Joe Stevens, Julius Ward Jr., Leon Provencher, Johnny Cangelosi, Carroll Christopher, E.A. Smith, Charlie Hannah and Kenny Dill.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

BUCHANAN – Linda Wood Merritt, 60, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at the Sanctuary Hospice House of Tupelo. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter and grandmother. She cherished working at Wal-Mart and being with her friends.
Services will be at noon today at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with the Rev. William Everett officiating. Burial will be at the Buchanan Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include her father, Dr. Harry Wood; her stepmother, Charmian Wood; her husband, Johnny Merritt; one son, Michael Merritt (Anita Bullock); two daughters, Michelle Gray (Randy) and Deborah Merritt Dogan (Jessie); one brother, Harry D. Wood III.(Donna); one sister, Donna Wood Sappington: one daughter-in-law, Melissa Merritt; seven grandchildren, Michael Merritt, Brandon Merritt, Justin Gray, Summer Gray, Cody Merritt, David Blystone and Blake Stout; her mother-in-law, Maxine Merritt; one stepsister, Melanie Misson (Brian); and one brother-in-law, Shane Young.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Eva Goode Wood; her stepsister, Sonja Lee Young; and her father-in-law, Walter Fleetwood Merritt.
Pallbearers will be Mike Merritt, John Samples, Michael Merritt, Stacy Dillard, Cody Merritt, Lynn Dillard and Allen Merritt.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon today at the funeral home.

Patrick Molloy
TUPELO – Patrick Kevin Lane Molloy, 16-day-old son of Michael and Lane Molloy of Auckland, New Zealand, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Women’s Hospital at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He arrived too early to this world and left too soon.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Tom Lalor and the Rev. Dr. Rick Brooks officiating. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his parents; a brother, Flynn Molloy of Auckland, New Zealand; his grandmothers, the Rev. Betty Whisenant Flynn of Tupelo and Maureen D. Molloy of Greymouth, New Zealand; his uncle and aunt, Brad and Kim Flynn, and cousin, Eleanor Flynn, of Memphis; 10 aunts and uncles, and 18 cousins in New Zealand.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Billy C. Flynn and Kevin A. Molloy.
A reception will follow at the Shelton Catholic Life Center at St. James Catholic Church.

CORINTH – Melissa Jo “Lisa” Massengill, 38, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at Magnolia Regional Health Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
