Carroll Ashcraft
MOOREVILLE – Carroll Gene Ashcraft, 87, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at his son’s home in Mooreville after a six month battle with cancer. He was born October 8 ,1922, in Kansas to Willard Leigh and Ruth Irene Orr Ashcraft. He lived in Newton, Kansas until 1942, when he went to serve in World War II, while in the Coast Guard. After the war, he moved to Hialeagh, Fla., where he lived until 1988. He moved back to his hometown of Newton, Kansas in 1988, and lived there until moving in with his son six months ago. He was a member of the VFW and American legion and was an active bowler.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Boguefala Baptist Church in Mooreville with Bro. David Perry officiating. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Bruce Ashcraft ( Lou Ann) of Mooreville; two brothers, Leroy Ashcraft of Newton, Kansas and Dick Ashcraft of Lawrence, Kansas; one sister, Norma Banaman of Newton, Kansas; three grandchildren, Tiffany Hooks of Tampa, Fla., Jennifer Wheeler of Mooreville, and Chad Wheeler of Charlotte, N.C; two great-grandchildren, Emily Hooks of Tampa, Fla., and Chandler Caton of Charlotte, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane R. Ashcraft; and his parents.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
Janie Murdock
NEW ALBANY – Janie Fay Murdock, 86, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at Union County Health and Rehab. She was born May 20, 1923, in Union County to Quincy Dewey Bryant and Nancy Speck Bryant. She was a sales clerk for Munsingwear Factory Outlet. She loved needle work, garden work, and working with her flowers. She enjoyed meeting with the senior citizens group at Ellistown Baptist Church where she was a member.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at United Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Randy Hope, the Rev. Earl Farley, and the Rev. Mike Powell officiating. Burial will be in the Ellistown Cemetery. United Funeral Service in New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Farley (Rev. Earl) of Myrtle, and Patty Cobb (Ricky) of New Albany; one son, Jimmy Murdock of New Albany; a sister-in-law, Dot Murdock of Olive Branch; five grandchildren, Michele Bray of Myrtle, Greta Logan of Pontotoc, Deanna Cobb of New Albany, Joshua Cobb of New Albany, and Cody Cobb of New Albany; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Clarence Murdock.
Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the funeral home.
Her grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

George Lamar Lane
GRENADA – George Lamar Lane, 63, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a retired heavy equipment operator, a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Church of the Nazarene. He was born May 5, 1946, in Tallahatchie County to George Brewer and Ruby Shook Lane.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Garner-Harper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phillip Bumpers officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery at Rosebloom. s
Survivors include three daughters, Micki Jones (Jason) of Batesville, Tracy Moore (Jason) of Panama City, Fla., Christy Walters (Tim) of Grenada; one son, Tony Pullen (Tina) of Houlka; his mother, Ruby Lane of Grenada; 17 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father, Brewer Lane; and his brother, Jim Lane.
Pallbearers will be Mike Burch, Joe McCain, Al Meriwether, Ricky Mitchell, Alton Strider and Terry Tallent.
Robert McDonald Jr.
TUPELO – Robert L. McDonald,Jr., 81, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born November 2, 1928, to Robert L. McDonald Sr., and Bertie Bradley McDonald. He was retired from Abbott Laboratories as a supervisor/coordinator. He was a member of the Dorsey Baptist Church.
Services will be private with a burial in the Dorsey Cemetery with Bro. Danny Rushing officiating. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Mantachie is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Wyvnee McDonald of Tupelo; one son, Jackie Dean McDonald (Pam) of Winthrop Harbor, Ill.; one daughter, Julie Ann Estes (Jim) of Mackinaw, Ill.; one sister, Corrine Jacob of Memphis; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Gail McDonald; a son, Danny McDonald; and his parents.
Public visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Mantachie.
Robert “Bob” Wesley Salmon
OXFORD – Robert “Bob” Wesley Salmon, 41, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at his home near Oxford, MS.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Coleman Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

George A. Dulaney
EVERGREEN COMMUNITY – George Allen Dulaney, 77, died Friday, December 25, 2009, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks after a brief illness. He was born in the Fairview Community of on March 21, l932, to Sid and Gladys Taylor Dulaney. He grew up in Fairview, joined the U. S. Army and served a tour of duty in the Korean Conflict. He then received an honorable discharge as a Sergeant. He spent a full career as an Engineer for American Motors in Kenosha, Wis.. He worked briefly for Mueller Brass in Fulton and did carpentry work the remainder of his life. He loved the land, farming and visiting with family and friends. An avid conversationalist, he was beloved by his family.
Services, with military honors, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Richmond Pentecostal Church with Bro. Rickey Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in Andrews Chapel Cemetery. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Joe Tom Alred Dulaney, to whom he married April 5, l980; his children, Kathleen Allison of Fairview, Tom Dulaney and John Dulaney, both of Kenosha, Wis., Doris Dye of the Carolina Community, Charlotte Lindley of Saltillo, Shelia Fleming (Robbie) of Carolina Community, Greg Hughes (Tammy) of Mantachie and David Hughes (Judy) of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a sister, Martha McLeod (Keith) of Memphis, Tenn.; 26 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jimmy Delane Hughes; and his brothers, Gid and Ab.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time today at the church.

Ronald Lee White
WEST POINT – Ronald Lee White, 70, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at the Community Hospice-Darlington Oaks in Verona. He was born February 4, 1939, in Stillwell, Okla. to Mary Della Turman White and Cecil Haskell White. He was a programmer and Human Resource Manager for Rusk Engineering in Olathe, Kan. Most recently, he worked in Security for Old Waverly Golf Club. He was an avid golfer and a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Vietnam War.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in West Point Memorial Garden Cemetery with Brother Ben Butler officiating assisted by Brother Mike Hunter. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two sisters, Sue White Iles of West Point and Nancy White Bartsch (Dave) of Glendale, Ari.; three nieces; three nephews; three great-nieces; and four-great nephews.
Visitation will be at 10:45 a.m. until service time at the cemetery.

Martha Hood
VERONA – Martha Hood, 67, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at Aurora Australis Lodge in Columbus after a lengthy illness. She was born August 30, 1942, in Columbus to Lonnie and Peggy Langford. She was a homemaker and a seamstress working for Amory Garment, Sharp Garment and Burris Chair Factory. She was a member of Open Door Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing bingo, fishing and playing solitaire on the computer. She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Robert Fowlkes officiating. Burial will be in Hatley Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Wiley Hood, Jr. of Verona; three daughters, Candus Red (Tommy) Whitaker of Shannon, Mary Melissia Warren of Nettleton and Lisa Marie Langford of Columbus; one son, Gerald (Angela) Hood of Amory; her mother-in-law, Aline Marie Hood of Aberdeen; two sisters, Mary Lucas (John) McDill of Columbus and Bonnie Hudson Silas of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Jerry (Linda) Langford of Columbus; one brother-in-law, Coy Wayne Hood of Aberdeen; thirteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Charlotte Lucille Hood; a grandson, Kyle Lee Whitaker; and a brother, Berry (Ricky) Langford.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Pieces, Andrew Shrock, Jay Barns, John McDill, Johnny Hood, Cody Hood and Danny Hood.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Aurora Nursing Home, Ricky Hood, Chandlor Cox, Wade Presley and her grandsons.

BALDWYN – Louise Speck Ashmore, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at the Baldwyn Nursing Facility. She was a retired Factory Worker and a member of the Ingram Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J Doss and Bessie Speck; her husband, Eugene Ashmore; her brothers, J.S. Speck, Cecil Speck, James Speck and J.D. Speck; and her sisters, Anna Laura Littlejohn and Edna Littlejohn.

Honorable Charlie Capps
CLEVELAND – Honorable Charlie Capps, 84, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, in Cleveland. He was a longtime member of the Mississippi House of Representatives and Chair of the Appropriations Committee.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Cleveland. Burial will be in the New Cleveland Cemetery.

Dick Bishop
NETTLETON – Ernest Arlin “Dick” Bishop, 77, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born on June 21, 1932, in Monroe County to William Porter and Lilly Cinderella Dupree Bishop. He was a lifelong resident of Nettleton and a retired plumber and pipe fitter of Local 714. He was a 1954 graduate of Itawamba Community College. He attended Cross Pointe Fellowship in Nettleton and also served in the U.S. Army and Mississippi Army National Guard. He was an avid gardener and loved to collect coins, stamps, and knives.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Cross Pointe Fellowship in Nettleton with the Rev. Tommy Ray Dabbs officiating. Burial will be in the Nettleton Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton will be in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Annette Graham Bishop of Nettleton; two daughters, Patti Bishop Barber (Roy) of Nettleton and Shannon Bishop Pettigrew (Craig) of Nettleton; three sons, Tim Bishop (Jonnie) of Fulton, Keith Bishop (Janice) of Nettleton and Craig Bishop (Leah) of Booneville; five sisters, Carrie Mae Baulch, Maveline Bennett and Velma Ruth “Blackie” Medley, all of Nettleton, Lilly Mae Bishop and Joyce Bishop, both of Alabama; three brothers, Charlie Bishop of Nettleton, J.P. Bishop of Arkansas and Daniel Bishop of Alabama; fifteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers, Master Bishop, Robert Bishop, Curtis Bishop, John T. “Bud” Bishop and Homer Bishop.

FULTON – Easter Lee Roberts, 69, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born on March 24, 1940, in Itawamba County to Christopher Columbus and Vebra Marie Harris Roberts. He was a printer operator for news papers and a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Jackie Gray officiating. Burial will be in James Creek Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Seth Roberts (Shona) of Fulton; two daughters, Lee Ann Holloway (Gary) of Pontotoc and Amy Brown (Pat) of Fulton; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Lee Lundy; seven sisters, Johnnie Wilson of Smithville, Elizabeth Funk of Hodges, Ala., Gwen Hawkins of Red Bay, Sarah Lesley of Dorsey, Cathy Leathers of Tremont, Jean Bailey of Amory and Linda Wilson of Smithville; and 21 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a half brother, Coy Roberts.

Bertis C. Cummings
NEW ALBANY – Bertis C. Cummings, 65, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union County. He was born June 19, 1944, in Haleyville Ala. to L.V. Cummings and Velma Passeur Cummings. He was a truck driver for Union Lumber Company.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Serenity Funeral Home in New Albany with Bro. David Passeur officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Ripley.
Survivors include his wife, Lora Ward Cummings of New Albany; three children, DeWayne (Telicia) Cummings, Belinda (Terry) Thompson, both of New Albany, and Larry (Misty) Cummings of Ripley; his mother, Velma Cummings; one sister, Shirley (Paul) Cosby of Haleyville, Ala.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a daughter, Leanna Marie Cummings.

Anne Lucile Caldwell
THAXTON – Anne Lucile Caldwell, 84, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at her home. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church and a homemaker.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in Collinsville with the Rev. Lynn Anderson officiating. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Myers of Oxford, and Gaynell Hudson of Oxford; one son, Jerry Caldwell of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jim Brieger of Jackson and Alan Brieger of Charlotte, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Caldwell; one sister; and two brothers.

BOONEVILLE – Robert Allen “Bobby” Owens, 79, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at his residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Booneville Funeral Home.

Robert Herman Bailey
ECRU – Robert Herman Bailey, 71, died at his home. He was born on March 7, 1938, in Union County. He graduated from Ecru High School in 1957. He served 10 years in the National Guard with the 155th and worked at Action for 26 years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. William Montgomery, Bro. Jim Allen, and Stark Aldridge officiating. Burial will be in Ecru City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Hanks Bailey; three children, Kim Lorick, Scotty Bailey and Jon Bailey; six grandchildren, Marien Lorick, Matthew Lorick, Bailey Lorick, Madison Bailey, Ashton Bailey and Anna Kathryn Bailey; one great-grandchild, Kaydence Holcomb; one son-in-law, Danny Lorick; one daughter-in-law, Amanda Bailey; one brother, Frank Bailey, one sister, Sarah Nolen; and three nephews, Brad Bailey, Chris Nolen and Cory Bailey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Sarah Bailey.
Pallbearers will be Randall Wray, Merle Wilder, Chad Harlow, Robert Finley, Mike Montgomery and Neal Crudup.

Myron K. Bernitz
TUPELO – Myron K. Bernitz, 72, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a lengthy illness. A Eudora, Kansas native, he was born June 20, 1937, to Arthur and Pearl Strobel Bernitz. He was raised in Eudora and was a 1959 graduate of the University of Kansas. He was a plant engineer with Dyno Nobel where he retired after 36 years. In 1999, he left retirement to begin working with Home Depot where he organized and managed the Kid’s Workshop program. He was an active member of St. Mark United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Donny Riley officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in Eudora.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Virginia Bernitz; six children, Carl Bernitz, Lisa Graves (Steven), Chris Bernitz, June Holmes (Roy), Tim Hughes and Wade Hughes (Donna); two granddaughters, Laura Ladd Graves and Mary Kate Graves; one grandson, Tristan Price; and one nephew, David Allen (Mellissa).
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patty Minor, and a sister, Wanda Allen.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
