Russel D. Wright
IUKA – Russel D. Wright, 72, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and retired from the dairy business. A devoted husband and wonderful father, he greatly enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle, fishing and gardening.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Phillip Logan officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Betty S. Wright; a special mother-in-law, Burchia Scruggs Milligan of Iuka; three sons, Monroe Wright (Judy), Martin Wright (Rhonda) and Mitchell Wright (Tammy), all of Iuka; two brothers, Julian Wright of Cortland, N.Y., and Tommy Wright, Burnsville; two sisters, Reba Cox of Hornsby, Tenn., and Betty Thompson of Cartersville, Ga.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Cora Liggins
ABBEVILLE – Cora Bell Liggins, 67, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at her cousin’s residence in Abbeville. She was a native of Lafayette County and a member of East St. Peter M.B. Church. She was a retired nurse and supervisor with Motorola. She loved to read books, watch westerns and do all kinds of puzzles.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. today at East St. Peter M.B. Church. Rev. Willam A Woods Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in East St. Peter Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by one son, Juan Liggins of Hammond, Ind.; two sisters, Juanita Harris of Olive Branch and Bennie Liggins of Cordova, Tenn.; and one brother, Benjamin Ligins Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.

Pearlie Mae Andrews
ABERDEEN – Pearlie Mae Andrews died Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born July 19, 1957, to Jane Ada Moore and Clarence Brooks Sr. in Monroe County. She joined Spring Creek M.B. Church at an early age.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Smith Chapel Holiness Church at Athens. Burial will be in Oddfellows Rest in Aberdeen. Belle Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three children, Jennifer Fort (Essie) of Hinesville, Ga., Torrey Boykins of Newport News, Va., and Santana Boykins of Hinesville, Ga.; eight sisters, Ruby Mae Holt (Freeman) of Pulaski, Ind., Rena Mae Cherry (Robert) of West Point, Diane Gunn and Louise Shelton (William), Margaret Manning and Christine Hatley of West Point, and Mattie C. Collins (Willie) of Chicago; four brothers, Willie C. Boykins (Lucy) of Aberdeen, Charles Ray Boykins (Dorothy) of Charleston, Clarence Brooks Jr. (Denise) of West Point and Richard Brooks of Tupelo; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild; a special family friend, Sharon Johnson of Aberdeen; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ricky Boykins.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Maureen Dunahue
NEW ALBANY – Mary Maureen Dunahue, 81, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County. She was born April 19, 1929, in Union County to Raymond Adam and Pearl Hogue Dye. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at United Funeral Service with Rev. Kara Blackard officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park.
Survivors include one son, James Dunahue (Patsy) of Myrtle; two sisters, Betty Jean Hopkins of New Albany and Nettie Mae Burns of Arkansas; six grandchildren, Scott Dunahue, Tim Dunahue, Adam Dunahue, Christopher Dunahue, Kevin Dunahue and Jeremy Dunahue; and nine great grandchildren, Nicholas Dunahue, Alexander Dunahue, Chasity Dunahue, Jennifer Dunahue, Tiffini Dunahue, Alexa Dunahue, Erika Dunahue, Jake Dunahue and Josh Dunahue.
She was preceded in death by a son, Rev. Donald Dunahue; two sisters, Edna Faye McLarty and Avandell Dye; and three brothers, Kermit, J.B. and James Dye.

Irene Brummett
SOUTHAVEN – Irene H. Brummett, 91, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Life Point Village in Southaven. Born in Lafayette County, Mrs. Brummett was a member of First Baptist Church of Abbeville and a homemaker. She was an avid gardener and keeper of the rose bushes until her health gave out.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Hope officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Flat Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 until 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include two sons, Don Brummett and his wife, Evelyn, of Batesville, and David Brummett and his wife, Diane, of Abbeville; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clelon Brummett, and a daughter, Dianna Brummett.

Garon Peterson
CORINTH – Garon Peterson, 76, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center.
Services will be at noon today at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Burial will be in Ruckersville Cemetery. Patterson Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time.

Dr. Henry Calvert Sr.
ABERDEEN – Dr. Henry Earl “Rick” and “Doc” Calvert Sr., 46, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, on Hwy. 45 Alt. at West Point. He was born July 26, 1964, in Aberdeen to Rev. Sam James and Lucile Richardson Calvert. Dr. Calvert was an honor graduate of Aberdeen High School, Class of 1983. He was accepted to Jackson State University in the fall 1983. In May 1987, he graduated with honors from JSU with a Bachelor of Science in biology pre-medicine with a minor in history. In June 1987, he entered into an independent research program at the College of William and Mary with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science located in Goucester Point, Va. This opportunity allowed him the chance to expand his knowledge in other fields of science including marine biology. Upon completion of this program, he was accepted into medical school at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, located in Cleveland, Ohio, where he received his doctorate degree in May 1991. He graduated from medical school with honors in surgery and radiology. Following graduation, he completed his residency program at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, located in Tuskegee, Ala.
Dr. Calvert served as a podiatrist for one year at the Cleveland Foot Clinic Inc. in Cleveland. Afterwards, he returned home to Aberdeen, where he opened his private practice in 1992. He was the owner and operator of the Family Foot Care Clinic Inc. in Aberdeen and the Family Foot Care Clinic in Ripley. His accomplishments included being selected to the Academy of Ambulatory Foot and Ankle Surgery, and member of the Podiatric Medical Association. He was ordained as a deacon at the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was called to the ministry in 2002 in the ministry and preached his first sermon on Nov. 3, 2002, at the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. On Dec. 14, 1991, he married Iris Shanks. They had three children.
Services will be at noon today at Aberdeen High School gym. Burial will be in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery in Aberdeen. Belle Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Latoya Blanchard of Amory and Mariah Oliva Calvert of Aberdeen, Md.; two sons, Henry Earl Calvert Jr. of Edgewood, Md., and Blake Justin Calvert of Aberdeen, Md.; two grandchildren, Jeremy Polk and Jamya Polk of Amory; nine sisters, Mae Frances (James) Larthridge of Country Club Hills, Ill., Christine (Harold) Holliday, Celess (Ezell) Brandon, Shirley (Arthur) Burnett and Lady (Cloyd) Garth of Aberdeen, Miss., Erma (Curtis) Betts and Lisa (James) Smith of Jackson, Essie (Ben) Peacock of Matteson, Ill.; and Priscilla Johnson of Columbus; three brothers, Willie James Calvert of Brandon, and Balsam Lake, Wis., Alexander (Jennifer) Calvert of Aberdeen, and Christopher Calvert of Minneapolis, Minn.; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

George Chance
ABERDEEN – George Silas Chance, 88, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at River Place Nursing Center of Amory. He was born Jan. 6, 1922, to George Warren Chance and Milea Fortner Chance in Surrency, Ga. He lived most of his life in Monroe County. He retired as a carpenter from Civil Service at Columbus Air Force Base and was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II. He was a member of Sulphur Springs Primitive Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Elder Herman Clark officiating. Burial will be in Egger Cemetery in Caledonia.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheryl Dianne Frazier of Hood River, Ore., and June Stonestreet of the Bartahatchie community; two sons, Edwin Chance and wife, Elaine, of Hamilton and George Darrell Chance and wife, Barbara, of the Bartahatchie community; one sister, Annie Mercer of Pointe Vedre Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, Suzanne Frazier Woods, Silas Frazier, Stephanie Frazier DuFur, Nikkole Frazier Dangerfield, Cynthia Chance Dahlem, Christopher Darrell Chance, Jason Craig Chance, Matthew Webster Chance, Mary Chance-Peeler, Ashley Stonestreet and Heather Stonestreet Tiblier; 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joyce June Webster Chance; his second wife, Annie Nunn Rodgers Chance; one brother and three sisters.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Chance, Silas Frazier, Christopher Chance, Christopher Tiblier, Ashley Stonestreet, Reed Tibler and Wayne Peeler.

Alta Faye Hancock
HICKORY FLAT – Alta Faye Hancock, 89, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born April 4, 1921 in Union County to Lonnie and Auborn McDaniel Churchill. She was a homemaker and a member of Cornersville Baptist Church.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at United Funeral Service with Rev. Donnie Schuman and Rev. Joe Epting officiating. Burial will be in Cornersville Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Allen Hancock (Karen) of Hickory Flat and Cliff (Scottie) of Pontotoc; and four grandchildren, Kara Hancock, Scott Hancock, Kinslee Hancock and Carson Hancock.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Hancock, and a son, Robert Hancock.

Linda Hearn
BLUE SPRINGS – Linda Hamblin Hearn, 62, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Graceland Care Center in New Albany. She was a member of Blue Springs Baptist Church. She was a retired Barclay factory employee. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter whom she loved dearly.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Blue Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Neil Davis officiating. Burial will be in Wallerville Cemetery. Kesler Funeral Home of Baldwyn is in charge of arrangements.
Suvivors include one son, David Parks (Angela) of Blue Springs; one granddaughter, Brittany Parks of Blue Springs; one sister, Kay Rollins (Ron) of Saltillo; a special nephew, Martin Thomas of Tupelo; her husband, Clark Hearn of Blue Springs, and his children, James and Dennis Allen Hearn, and Michelle Finke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Evelyn Hamblin; one son, Gary Wayne Parks; and one nephew, John Grant.

Roy Hill Sr.
HOUSTON – Roy Edward Hill Sr., 74, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born July 27, 1936, in Woodland to Clyde Hill and Erah Butler Hill. He graduated from Woodland High School. He was a Vietnam veteran and retired from U.S. Air Force after 20 years. He was also a truck driver for 30 years. He was a member and a deacon at Van Vleet Baptist Church in Van Vleet.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday with Bro. Waymon Betts and Bro. Randy Rineheart officiating. Burial will be at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Houston. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Minnie Jo Beaty Hill of Houston; two sons, Eddie Hill (Karen) of Houston, and Steve Hill (Julia) of Ridgeland; one daughter, Kim Hill Parham of Pontotoc; one sister, Ann Buckingham Espey of Tupelo; six grandchildren, Keith Parham (Betty), Any Parham Clouse (Vince), Crystal Hill Graves (Wesley), Carrie Hill Ray (Chad), Beaty Hill and Hayden Hill; six great-granchildren, Tristen Graves, Tori Graves, Maddox Clouse, Kimble Grace Clouse, Cailynn Ray and Bob Pennington.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Hill and Erah Butler Hill; one grandson, Micheal Keesser; and one brother, Billy Clyde Hill.
Pallbearers include Chad Ray, Vince Clouse, Wesley Graves, John Moore, Keith Parham and Joe Sellers.
Honorary pallbearers include William Earnest, Silas Wesley, Rad Clark, Buddy Hill and Bufford May.

Fred A. Downs
BRANDON – Fred A. Downs, 89, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at his residence. Mr. Downs was a native and longtime resident of Brandon. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Brandon Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ott amp& Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery.
Survivors include his daughter, Connie Downs of Brandon; his son, David Downs of Pass Christian; his sister, Gene Downs Thompson of New Orleans; and his grandchildren, Chris Downs of Tupelo, and Jeannie Downs, Tony Downs and Noah Down, all of Pass Christian.
His wife, Gloria Downs, preceded him in death.

Gladys Clayton
PENSACOLA, Fla. – Gladys Hunt Ballard Clayton died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, in Pensacola, Fla. She would have been 83 on Dec. 17. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tupelo and Germantown Presbyterian in Germantown, Tenn. She loved life, her needlepoint and bridge. All those who knew her will miss her love, quick wit and laughter.
Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Tupelo Memorial Park with Dr. Steven Cloud officiating. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her children, Morgan Ballard Shelton (Jerry) of Pensacola, Fla., Stanford Herron Ballard (Sandy) of Mantachie, India Ballard Davis (Glenn) of Bessemer, Ala., and Gina Ballard Stonich (Richard) of Baton Rouge, La.; four grandchildren, Skip Shelton (Jennifer) of Pensacola, Craig Shelton (Lenora) of Pensacola, Nikki Ballard of Tupelo and Andrew Davis of Bessemer; seven great-grandchildren, Paul, Jackson, Justin, Aiden and Dillon Shelton of Pensacola, and Brice and Brooklyn McCoy of Pensacola.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wyble Clayton; one brother, Stanford Herron Hunt; and two sisters, Dora Collins and Virginia Meadow.
Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

NETTLETON – Walter Lee Chandler, 63, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, as the result of a house fire.

ABERDEEN – Melvin Hampton, 82, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville.

Belle Hester
NETTLETON – Belle Inmon Hester, 90, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Gilmore Memorial RMC in Amory. Born on Jan. 9, 1920, in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Harvey Derrick Inmon. She married Buford Hester on July 2, 1943. A quiet, caring, gentle and compassionate lady who would never offend anyone, Mrs. Hester was fondly known as “Aunt Belle.” A homemaker, she was a childcare provider and a caretaker of her family members. She loved to quilt, cook and raise gardens. She was a member of Cason Baptist Church. Her greatest joy was being with her family, especially John, Tracy and Elizabeth.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Jim Manley, Bro. John Maxey, Bro. Tommy Whaley and Bro. Shane Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda H. (Larry) Maxey of Amory; grandson, Rev. John A. (Tracy) Maxey of Hamilton; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Belle Maxey of Hamilton; brother-in-law, Buddy (Helen) Hester of Amory; and several niece and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Hester, on June 10, 1987; sisters, Vera Pope, Ivy McClear and Montreal Burchfield; and brothers, Will, Wiley, Felon and Ace Inmon.
Pallbearers will be David Stanford, Ronnie Coggin, Bryan Hester, Ronnie Hood, Johnny Brown, Ricky Joe Inmon, and Darrel and Jeff Vinson. Honorary pallbearer will be Buddy Hester.
