Nettie Dean
NEW ALBANY – Bessie Jeanette amp”Nettieamp” Dean, 91, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at Graceland Care Center in New Albany. She was born Set. 10, 1920, in New Albany to Thomas Potts and Minnie Bishop Potts. She was a retired factory worker and homemaker. She was a member of the Victory Life Center in New Albany.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at United Funeral Service Chapel in New Albany with the Rev. Raymond Bishop and Rev. Mark Bishop officiating. Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery in Guntown. United Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Coltharp (Lenox) of Myrtle and Reba Spritzen of Crystal Lake, Ill.; three sons, Jessie Dean (Judy) of Wilcox, Ariz., Matthew Dean (Debra) of Baldwyn and Loyd Wayne Brackeen (Billie) of Smithville, Tenn.; a brother, Robert Potts of Saltillo; 17 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Edward Dean; two daughters, Louise Fetters and Mae Evelyn Dean; a sister, Earline Smith; and three brothers, Claude Potts, Clyde Potts and James Potts.
Pallbearers will be Leroy Coltharp, Charles Wright, Eddie Coltharp, Benny Kirk, Mark Dean and Rodney Coltharp.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

WEST POINT – Ella Mae Carter-Fulton, 83, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at the Aurora Australis Lodge.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Zion Gates Baptist Church in Columbus. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Carter’s Mortuary Services of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.

OKOLONA – Erica Stephanie “Speedy” Williams, 32, died suddenly Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, in Houston. She was born in Memphis on Aug. 10, l979, the only child of Eric Steven Williams and Kathryn Lee Locke Williams. She lived most of her life in the Amory area before moving to Okolona several months ago. She was employed in the furniture industry most of her adult life with her most recent employment at Seminole Manufacturing in Okolona, where she worked the cutting table. She was a member of St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Amory. She was a fun person who loved talking on her cell phone, listening to all kinds of music especially rhythm and blues, and visiting with family and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Nettleton Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Sis. Lael Niblick officiating. Private burial will follow In Center Hill Cemetery in Hamilton. Holland Funeral Directors, Nettleton Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today and from noon to service time Thursday all at the Nettleton Chapel.
Survivors include her children, Antonio Drake Gray and Gavin Blake Gray, and their father, Toby Gray, all of Nettleton; her father, Eric S. Williams of Amory; special aunts and uncle, Billy and Janice Tackett of Okolona, with whom she lived, and Kathryn Moore of Hamilton; her cousins, Sharon Williams (John), Alan Moore (Debra) and Amber Putnam (Billy), all of Hamilton, and Matthew Williams (Veronica) of Tulsa, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her mother in l998 and her grandparents.
Pallbearers will be Billy, Daniel and Neal Tackett, Gary Thompson, John Williams and Michael Gray. Honorary pallbearer will be her friend, Pocca.

Laverne Bray
PONTOTOC – Lee Laverne Bray, 89, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011. She was a retired teacher in Mississippi and Florida. She was a former assistant professor of business at Mississippi University for Women and the University of Mississippi and had taught at the other following places: North Florida Junior College, Madison; Northwest Mississippi Junior College, Senatobia; Northeast Mississippi Junior College in Booneville; and schools at Glen Allen, Pontotoc, Algoma, Randolph, Toccopola and Springville. Miss Bray was a graduate of Blue Mountain College and Ole Miss with postgraduate work from Mississippi State University and the University of Miami, Miami, Fla. She was a member of Pontotoc First Baptist Church, Pontotoc Chapter No. 138 of OBS, NEA, SBEA-NBEA, and the Ole Miss Upsilon Chapter of Delta Pi Epsilon, and AARP. She served as sponsor of the Baptist Student Union on three college campuses and as a renowned sponsor of Future Business Leaders of America – Phi Beta Lambda wherever she taught. She had a concern and compassion for elderly and young alike and was always doing for other people and showing God’s love to them.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Charles Bray officiating. Burial will be in Guinn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Thursday.
Survivors include her sister, Jo Dale Bray Fooshee (Hansel) of Huntsville, Ala.; a niece, Rhonda Wheat (James) of Columbus; a nephew, Douglas Fooshee (Kandice) of Huntsville, Ala.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pallbearers will be Doug Fooshee, James Wheat, Shannon Murphy and Clint Powell.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Blue Mountain College, The American Cancer Society, The American Heart Association, or a favorite charity.

NEW SITE – Lester McCreary, 80, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ and a retired logger and farmer.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ronnie Livingston officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
He is survived by four nieces, Janice Rutledge, Pam (Rusty) Cole and Lafonda Lindsey all of Booneville, and Linda Jackson of Marietta; one nephew, Freddie (Mary) McCreary of Baldwyn; one brother, Floyd (Flora Arleana) McCreary of Booneville; one sister-in-law, Leailla McCreary of Marietta and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Wallace McCreary, William Riley McCreary and Fred McCreary.
Pallbearers will be James Thornton, Freddie McCreary, Marty McCreary, Jeff McCreary, Corey Jones, Chris McCreary, Matt Lindsey and Devin Inman.

PONTOTOC – Iris Raby Russell, 94, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at Graceland Care Center in Pontotoc. She was a member of McGregor’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She had worked at Page’s Ben Franklin Store and she was a homemaker.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Rev. Steve Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Springs Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Park and Dudley of Pontotoc; five grandchildren, Shandra Graham and Aric, Caleb Park, Cody Park, Renee Dobbs and Rushelle Hudson; five great-grandchildren, Lakyn Graham, Chloe Graham, Ryan Daniels, Adam Ragon and Austin Ragon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Raby and Zelpha Mae Gafford Raby; her husband, Avery Leister Russell; and a daughter, Byrnece Bowles.

Katherine Kitchens
NEW ALBANY – Katherine Ann Kitchens, 82, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County in New Albany. She was born Sept. 20, 1929, in New Albany to Charlie Samuel Carnell and Opal Callicutt Carnell. She was a graduate of New Albany High School and attended Blue Mountain College. She was active in the American Red Cross Disaster and Blood Services, where she was awarded for her many years of service. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and an avid bridge player. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, where she served in many areas of ministry. Because of her love for children in the church, she volunteered as the nursery coordinator for many years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in New Albany with the Rev. Rick Blythe and Rev. Tom Sumrall officiating. Burial will be in the New Albany City Cemetery. United Funeral Service in New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her son, David Kitchens (Patricia) of New Albany; five grandchildren, Ben Riggs Kitchens, Sam Kitchens (Sara), Mary Katherine Kitchens, Susan Downs and Laura Downs; and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben Allen Kitchens; and her daughter, Lee Ann Downs.
Pallbearers will be Mike Staten, David Duff, Bob Gault, Gerald Kimbrough, Dan Skinner and Allen Maxwell.

NEW ALBANY – Sammie Loretta Goldsby, 74, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at her home. She was born June 3, 1937, to Samuel Edgar Huffsticker and Bessie Womack Huffsticker in New Albany.

Survivors include five children, Teresa Floyd and Cecilia Hill of New Albany, Anthony (Jean) DeVaughn of Meridian, Susan (Glen) VanDevender of Flora and Sam DeVaughn (Barkley) of Cordova, Tenn.; a brother, Calvin Huffsticker; two sisters, Ann (Jerry) Hamblin of New Albany and Shelia (Sammy) Taylor of Blue Springs; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Billie Verrell.

Gilroy Bails Sr.
RIPLEY – Gilroy “Littlen” Bails Sr., 77, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at the Tippah County Hospital in Ripley. He was born July 30, 1934, to Andrew Bails and Nodie Simmons Cox. He joined St. John Baptist Church at an early age. He later joined Ripley Second Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, church treasurer, Sunday School teacher, assistant Sunday School superintendent and Brotherhood member. He was a retired employee of Jitney Jungle, where he worked for many years. He also was a bus driver for the South Tippah School District. He was a Ward 3 alderman for 24 consecutive years. He was a member of the Ripley Lions Club.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. James Church of God in Christ with Pastor Willie Paine officiating. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery. Foster amp& Son Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Grace P. Ratliff Bails of Ripley; three sons. Alfonso (Annette) Bails and Gilroy Jr. (Helen) Bails of Ripley, and Gregory (Pam) Bails of Memphis; two daughters, Teresa (John) Smith of Calumet City, Ill., and Diane (Tony) Rogers of Ripley; five grandchildren, Larry Johnson Jr., Tremain Rogers, Fabian Bails, Amberly Rogers and Mackenzie Bails; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Hattie (Albert) Cox of Ripley; three aunts, Annette McDonald of Ripley, Betty Jean Simmons of Blue Mountain and Johnnie Simmons of Racine, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Johnnie Cox and Dorothy Bails, both of Ripley; two brothers-in-law, Lonnie (Mary) Ratliff of Columbia and Joe (Scottie) Ratliff of Hazelcrest, Ill; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Paul Anthony Rogers Jr. (T.J.); and his siblings, Elone Lowry, Henry Bails and his twin brother, Leroy Bails.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the family time from 6 to 8 p.m. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service time Friday.

FULTON – Mary A. Bowen, 91, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at The Meadows in Fulton. She was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Alabama to Jesse E. and Annie E. McFadden Welch. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. She enjoyed her flowers, cooking, gardening and spending time with her family.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Gary O’Neal officiating. Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Garden. Senter Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

TUPELO – Jack Clifford Nanney, 80, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at Sanctuary Hospice House after a brief illness. He was born Nov. 29, 1931, in Kolola Springs to William Clarence Sr. and Vera Simmons Nanney. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving in the Korean War. He retired from Daybrite after 46 years of service. He was a faithful member of Monument Drive Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed playing games and eating out with friends. He loved his family and serving his church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Roaten and Bro. Tommy Tackett officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Tupelo Memorial Park.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Peters of Tupelo; two sons, David Nanney (Mary) of Shannon and Steve Nanney (Jennifer) of Endville; two brothers, W.C. Donald L. Knight
AMORY – Donald L. Knight, 79, died on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at his residence. Born on Jan. 14, 1932, in Lamar County, Ala., he was a son of the late Jerry W. and Clara Stanford Knight. He attended Pine Springs School in Lamar County. He honorably served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force. After returning home, he received his electrical license from IJC. He married Ruth Burks on June 22, 1957. Mr. Knight owned and operated Knight Electric Company. A Methodist, he was a member of Hatley United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Splunge Masonic Lodge 602 and the IBEW Local 852. He enjoyed the fellowship with his Coffee Club friends at Amory Cafampé. Being with his family and watching the Chicago Cubs baseball games gave Mr. Knight the most enjoyment in life. A plain spoken gentleman, he enjoyed fishing and watching Gospel Channel 39.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Knight of Amory; daughters, Donna Ballard (Kenny) of Amory and Reneampé Clayton (Mark) of Tupelo; sister, Martha Holloway (Duane) of Smithville; brothers, Joe Knight (Caroline) of Amory and Larry Knight (Rubye) of Greenwood Springs; grandchildren, Brian Ballard, Nick Ballard (Jessica), Leah Clayton and Adam Clayton; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hilmer Hudson; and brothers, J.C., L.C., Jim and David Knight.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Coggins and Bro. Sammy Washburn officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Kenny, Brian and Nick Ballard; Mark and Adam Clayton; and Joe Burks. Honorary pallbearers will be Warner Hester and Hollis Parker.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
