Mary Jane James
OXFORD – Mary Jane James, 60, a retired first-grade teacher at Gateway Christian Academy in Pascagoula, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at her home in Oxford. A former resident of Moss Point, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Moss Point where she taught Sunday school, was an active member of her Sunday school class and taught Vacation Bible School. She also played the saxophone and hand bells in the church choir. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa teaching society and a volunteer for Camp Bluebird for cancer awareness.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Eastover Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service Wednesday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband, Danny R. James of Oxford; two daughters, Jillian James Foster of Oxford and Lyla Brooke Sward of Vancleave; and one grandchild, Autry Ford Foster.

TISHOMINGO – Mertie Quay Martin, 85, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2010, at her residence. She was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Tishomingo County. She attended Carters Branch Church of Christ.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Belmont with Bro. Thomas Holliday officiating. Burial will be in Martin Cemetery in Tishomingo.
Survivors include one sister, Adell Powell of Flint, Mich.; five nieces, Anna Southward – her caregiver (Jeff Rogers), Marie Shumpert and Virginia Holliday, all of Tishomingo, Gloria Southward of Iuka and Wanda Sue Martin of Red Bay; six nephews, Terry Powell and Michael Odell Martin, both of Flint, Mich., Lionel Powell of Chicago, Leroy Burgess and Tommy Burgess, both of Cincinnati, Ohio and Wallace Burgess of Georgia; three great-nieces, Cherri Cox, Jasmine Holliday and Aundrea Brice; nine great-nephews, Myles Cox, Phillip Powell, Stephen Powell, Aaron Powell, Jamie Martin, Martin Southward, Jonathan Southward, Chris Shumpert and Brandon Holliday; and four sisters-in-law, Annie Mae Southward and Allean Martin, both of Tishomingo, Azzie Lee Martin of Red Bay and Shirley Martin, of Flint, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Bruce Martin.

PRAIRIE – Ruth Christine Smitherman Forrester, 60, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. She was born Nov. 4, 1950, to Prentiss Grady Smitherman and Bertie Mae Barnes Smitherman in Clay County. She was a lifelong resident of Clay County and graduated from West Point High School. She was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Bro. Mark Thornton, Lisa Henley and Lisa Weed officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, George Linroy Forrester of Prairie; two daughters, Kimberly Gale Kendricks (Raymond) of Cleveland, Tenn. and Amanda Lynn Tate of Prairie; a son, Christopher George Forrester (Jennifer Nicole) of Starkville; three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Smith and Margaret Guest, both of Prairie and Beatrice Nelson of Aberdeen; and eight grandchildren, Daria Bertie Bankston, Brittney Gale Kendricks, Miranda Justine Tate, Dustin Grady Tate, Heather Rae Kendricks, Faith Christina Sawtelle, Allie Nicole Forrester and Christopher Jacob Forrester.
She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers; and three sisters.

PASCAGOULA – John Larry Ivy Sr., 63, formerly of Sturgis, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at his residence in Pascagoula. He was born in Bradley on Sept. 4, 1947, to Henry Alvin “Spike” Ivy and Louise Ellington Ivy.

FULTON – Gage Earnest Presley, 12, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, in Itawamba County as the result of an automobile accident. He was born June 21, 1998. He was a 6th-grade student at Fairview Attendance Center. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and animals. He dearly loved his father and his family.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his father, Michael “Elvis” Presley of Fulton; two sisters, Jessica Earnest and Candace Presley, both of Fulton; his grandparents, Marilyn Collier of Fulton, Jerry Presley of Booneville and Peggy Earnest of Fulton; his great-grandmother, Mary Presley of Golden; two special uncles, Jerrell Trimble of Hamilton and Jamie Collier (Resa) of Fulton; one aunt, Jennifer Saanz and husband, John of Fulton; and two cousins, LeeAnna Collier and Michael Collier.

SOMERVILLE, Tenn. – Bert Ray Wilson Sr., 84, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at National Healthcare Center in Somerville. He was a native of Marshall County and a brother of Clyde Wilson of Potts Camp. PITTSBORO – Juanita Morgan, 70, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born Oct. 26, 1940, in Lexington. She was a homemaker, former store clerk and a member of Parker Baptist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Paul Morris and Bro. Billy Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Parker Cemetery in Bruce.

HICKORY FLAT – Mary Linda Hudson Cook, 67, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born June 2, 1943, in Union County to Wilford Duncan Hudson and Marjorie Fowler Hudson. She was a former employee of Stratford Furniture and Benchcraft Manufacturing. She was an officer for Mississippi on Wheels Car Club and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 128. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Steven Ray Cook of Hickory Flat; two daughters Cathy Moffitt (Jimmy Dale) of Blue Mountain and Angie Meeks (David) of Hickory Flat; a son, Steven Cody Cook of Senatobia; three sisters Johnnie Sue Davis, Patsy Dunahue and Darlene Thomas, all of Myrtle; four brothers, the Rev. Robert Raper Guyton
GUNTOWN – Pastor Robert Jonathan Raper Guyton died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, at Darlington Oaks in Verona. He was a member of Bethel C.M.E. Church. He received his early education in Guntown at Guntown Colored High School. He was a 1960 graduate of George Washington Carver High School and received a degree in social studies from Alcorn State University in 1964. He was called to the ministry in 1966, was ordained and pastored churches in Iuka, Booneville and Rossville, Tenn. A retired pastor, he served 26 years at Stinson C.M.E. Church in Rossville, Tenn. He also served the community by driving a number of years for Medicaid and taking various ones to special family events in other cities and states. He was devoted to God and the word of God.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Belth C.M.E. Church in Guntown with Pastor Charles McGuaghy and Elder Leo Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include three brothers, John and Charles of Guntown, Prentiss (Ellen) of Pickens; two sisters, Betty and Annette of Guntown; one aunt, Camilla Kennedy of New Albany; one niece, Michelle (Joseph) Jefferson and their three children of Houston, Texas; and two nephews, Daniel and Kenneth Guyton of Pickens.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Albert Raper; stepfather, Birt Guyton; and his mother, Flora Dell Guyton.

GUNTOWN – Morris E. Agnew 98, died Dec. 26, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a brief illness. He was born June 22, 1912, to J. Bonds and Bessie Lee Epting Agnew. He was a retired dairy farmer. He was known for his advanced farming methods. He was very active in the Cedar Hill Community for many years. He was a lifelong member of Bethany Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, where he was the oldest member and an active ruling Elder.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Waters Funeral Home with Bro Stephen Roberts and Bro Dale Whitlock officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Lillian Roberts of Guntown; one grandson, Tim Roberts (Beverly) of Guntown; great-grandchildren, Stephen Roberts (Shana) and Blair Guin (Mark); and great-great-grandchildren, Jude Roberts, Marlee Guin and Sam Allen Guin.
