James Robinson
TISHOMINGO – James McKinley “Jimmy” Robinson, 65, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at his residence. He was a native of Alabama and was retired from Golden Manufacturing. He had served in the National Guard.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Belmont with Mike Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Joel Cemetery at Dennis. Deaton Funeral Home of Belmont is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are one brother, Roy Robinson of Dennis; three stepchildren; several stepgrandchildren; nieces, Brenda Phifer of Belmont and Trish Reid of Jackson; nephews, Phillip Searcy of Golden, Joey Robinson of Red Bay, Ala., and Josh Robinson of Dennis; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Robinson; his parents, Woodrow and Marie Wilkinson Robinson; one brother, Charles Robinson; and two sisters, Betty Searcy and Catherine Thompson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Deaton Funeral Home in Belmont and until service time on Wednesday.

BLUE SPRINGS – James “Smokie” Herod, 57, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at his residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by United Funeral Service in New Albany.

WATER VALLEY – Janie Louella Chandler McCullar, 88, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at Yalobusha General Nursing Home in Water Valley.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Sylva Rena Cemetery in Yalobusha County.

BALDWYN – Jimmie Sue Watson, 75, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011. She was a factory worker, the retired owner of 45 Mini Mart and past owner of Guntown Cafe. She was a member and organist for Guntown First Baptist Church for over 40 years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Waters Funeral Home in Baldwyn with Bro. Bobby Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Judy Stevenson (Clay) and Bobbie Sue Phillips (Wayne Kilgore), both of Guntown; two sons, Donald Watson (Angie) of Guntown and Terry Watson (Lesha Segars) of Baldwyn; one son-in-law, Ray Hutcheson of Saltillo; four brothers, Bill Hogue (Sue) of Baldwyn, Lonnie Hogue of Union Grove, Wis., Sammy Hogue of Baldwyn and Benny Hogue (Doris) of New Albany; nine grandchildren, Chad Watson, Tiffany Lindsey (Adam), Chris Stevenson (Jessi), Collin Hutcheson, Joey Hutcheson, Blaine Watson, Chase Watson, Drew Phillips snd Kaitlin Kimbrough; five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Wayne Watson; her parents, Marvin and Sallie Marshall Hogue; two daughters, Sheila Hutcheson and an infant daughter.
Pallbearers will be Chad Watson, Joey Hutcheson, Chris Stevenson, Collin Hutcheson, Drew Phillips, Chase Watson, Andy Phillips and Adam Lindsey.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Waters Funeral Home.

RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. – Opal Rogers Cook Bumpas, 86, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at Hospice House of Rutherford County, N.C.

BYHALIA – Belinda Marie Mitchell, 59, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.

Survivors include her daughters, Pamela Shaw Stafford (Greg) of Birmingham, Ala., and Ginger Marie Collins (Glenn) of Dumas; one sister, Paula Sue Smoot (Gary) of Byhalia; a stepbrother, Mitch Tomlinson of Holly Springs; six grandchildren, Trent, Jessica, Daniel, Joshua, Matthew and Big Josh; her stepfather, Mitchell Tomlinson of Holly Springs; and a half brother, Steve Zerbe of Colorado Springs, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Bunnie Tomlinson; her father, Robert Monroe Mitchell; and a brother, Robert Monroe Mitchell Jr.

CORINTH – Riad “Ray” Houry, 72, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at his home.

Rubye Cother
TUPELO – Rubye Monaghan Cother died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at her home in Tupelo after a lengthy illness. She was born Nov. 6, 1919, in Lee County to the Rev. Frank Monaghan and Margaret Cain Monaghan. She joined First Baptist Church at an early age and was assistant teacher of the Fidelis Class until she was unable to attend. She lived in Inverness for several years and was active in her church there, teaching the young married couples Bible class. She was past Worthy Matron of E.J. Martin Chapter of OES. She returned to Tupelo in 1960 and was secretary at Perrin Purvis Insurance for 23 years. She was presented the Mississippi Mutual Insurance Agents Award for Secretary of the Year in 1967. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and playing bridge.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lee Memorial Park with Dr. Gayle Alexander officiating. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews; and her son by a previous marriage, Jerry Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Cother; four sisters, Ada Lou Clark, Manell Summers, Frankie Harper and Anna Watts; three brothers, Henderson Monaghan, Robert Monaghan and Monroe Monaghan.
Visitation will be from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Faye Holcombe
BATESVILLE – Faye Ferrell Holcombe, 86, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at the Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville. She was born Oct. 14, 1925, in Batesville to Barnett Sanford and Quitty Ferrell. She was a graduate of Batesville High School. She married Fred Holcombe of Como in 1943. They were married for 54 years until his death in 1997. She was an employee of the Bank of Batesville for several years. She and her husband owned and operated a furniture and appliance business in Batesville for 28 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a Sunday School teacher for many years. She moved with her family to Tupelo in 1997 and joined First Baptist Church. She returned to Batesville in August 2003.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at the Lee Chapel of the First Baptist Church in Batesville. Chaplain H.F. Holcombe Jr., Dr. Carl Buck and the Rev. Tommy Snyder will officiate. Burial will follow in the Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Homes of Batesville is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Fred Holcombe Jr. and his wife, Wendy; two grandsons, Brent Alexander Holcombe and William Henry Holcombe; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time today at the church.

IUKA – Edd McMeans, 93, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fairview Community Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time.

GOLDEN – Frances Louise Johnson, 62, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born May 21, 1949, to Elmer and Lena Davis Guntharp. She was a home-maker and did sewing for the public at her home. She was an avid reader and enjoyed being around her grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Harold Ozbirn officiating. Burial will be in the Hardens Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Steven Johnson of Booneville; one daughter, Amy Johnson (Steven) of Fulton; her mother, Lena Guntharp of Golden; one brother, Frankie Guntharp (Teressa) of Fulton; one sister, Linda Rogers of Golden; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Rogers, Matt Klamert, Austin Jenkins, Jeremy Oliver, Justin Guntharp and Rickey Guntharp.

HICKORY FLAT – Jay Vanzant, 85, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County in New Albany. He was born Jan. 3, 1926, in Lynn, Ala. He was the owner and operator of small engine repair shops. He was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Flat Rock Baptist Church with Bro. Gary Yates and Bro. Randy Buse officiating. Burial will be in Flat Rock Cemetery in Hickory Flat. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel Vanzant; three sons, Larry Vanzant (Tina) of Lakeland, Tenn., Billy Vanzant (Cathy) of Hickory Flat and Ronnie Vanzant (Deborah) of Hickory Flat; one sister, Rachel Shelton of Hickory Flat; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joel Vanzant, and his mother, Mary Mize Vanzant.

ASHLAND – Dewey Stanley Poff, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at Alliance Health Care in Holly Springs. He was born March 9, 1929, in Ashland. He was a postman for the U.S. Postal Service. He also worked at Wurlitzer and with the U.S. Forestry Service. He was a member of Bluff Springs Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bluff Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Gerald Hodges and Bro. Farron Ash officiating. Burial will be in Bluff Springs Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Palmer Poff of Ashland; three sons, Michael D. Poff of Jackson, and Stanley D. Poff and Jeffery H. Poff, both of Ashland; one daughter, Cynthia Hunt of Ashland; two brothers, Joel D. Poff of Ashland and J.W. BRUCE – James Herron “Pete” Liles, 76, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at his daughter’s home in Brandon. He was born March 25, 1935, in Coffeeville. He was a truck driver and a member of Clear Springs Baptist Church. He served four years in the U.S. Army. An avid Ole Miss fan, he enjoyed playing dominos.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce with the Rev. James Caulder and Sis. Iva Nadine Sims officiating. Burial will be in Clear Springs Cemetery in Coffeeville.
Survivors include one son, James Bradford Liles (Dana) of Bruce; daughters, Angie Keil (Martin) of Brandon and Jennifer A. Liles of Brandon; a stepdaughter, Veade Danell of Folsom, La.; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Claire Keil and Madison Keil of Brandon, James Zackary Liles and Jared Douglas Liles of Bruce, and Melisa Smelley and Jessica Janeau; three sisters, Frances Earlene Ferguson of Crestview, Fla., Iva Nadine Sims of Hemphill, Texas, and Patricia Ann Liles of New Albany; and one brother John Wayne Liles of Morton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Liles; an infant son, James H. Liles Jr.; a daughter, Audry Liles; two sisters, Mary Kathrine Jessman and Dorothy Helen Hopper; brothers, Francis Ray Liles and Samuel Hervey Liles, Francis Herron Liles II, William Green Liles; and his parents, Francis Herron Liles I and Early Mae McMahan Liles.

NEW ALBANY – Pamela Lemar, 45, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at her home. She was born Jan. 29, 1966, in Union County to Finis and Carol Horton McCurdy.

PONTOTOC – Ruby Gray Woodson, 94, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at Sunshine Nursing Home. She joined Piney Grove Baptist Church at a young age. She enjoyed quilting, visiting her friends and spending time with her family.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Donald Austin and Bro. Gerald Finley officiating. Burial will be in Oak Forest Cemetery.
Survivors include four daughters, Sue Ferguson (Hershell) of Randolph, Carol Billings (Bobby) of Pontotoc, Brenda Brown (Roger) of Pontotoc and Judy Stancil of Randolph; four sons, Gerald Gray (Elsie) of Houston, Jimmy Gray (Carolyn) of Randolph, Larry Gray (Sherron) of Michigan and Gary Gray of Pontotoc; 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Egbert and Mattie Huckaby; her husbands, Marshall Gray and Herman Woodson; one son, Leslie Gene Gray; two granddaughter, Karen Jan Earnest and Michelle Shelfo; three sisters, Ethel Traylor, Nona Warren and Beulah Harrison; and one brother, Earnest Huckaby.

PONTOTOC – Hiram Hall Jr., 65, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born April 11, 1946, in Logan County, W.Va., to Hiram and Sally Hall. He was retired from Paslode. He loved God, his family, hunting and fishing.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Bro. Jimmy Carr and Bro. Pete Gregory officiating. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Ron Hall (Heather) and Jeff Hall (Crissy); one daughter, Donna Hall; his grandchildren, Grant, Johnathan, Ally, Conner, Emily, Kathryn, Brandon and Victoria.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Keith Hall, and his parents.
