BOONEVILLE – Ellen Mize McVey, 94, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. She was born June 13, 1916, in Prentiss County to Clifton and Giffie Flanagan Mize. She was a housewife and the last charter member of the Booneville Church of God. She enjoyed reading her Bible.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Booneville Church of God with Bro. James Wells, Bro. Allen Johnson and Bro. Keith Skelton officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Memorial Gardens. McMillan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by four daughters, Carolyn (Bill) Fuerstenberg of Jamesville, Wis. Peggy (Michael) Land of Navarre, Fla., Wanda (Smith) Brown of Booneville and Martha Owens of Houston; three sons, Melvin (Sandy) McVey of Ocean Springs, Gary McVey and Edwin (Sherry) McVey, both of Booneville; one sister, Fannie May Singleton of San Antonio, Texas; three brothers, Clifton Mize, Samuel Mize and Aaron Mize, all of Booneville; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Herman McVey; five sons, Robert Eugene, Kenneth, James, Willard and Lionel Ray McVey; one daughter, Linda Fay McVey; one granddaughter, Ellen Pittman; one sister, Ruthie Garza; and two brothers, Ruben and Crockett Mize.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church at 1 p.m. Monday.

CORINTH – J.W. Sanders, 84, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at Magnolia Regional Health Center.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Corinthian Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Corinthian Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
VARDAMAN – Sam Hartley, 96, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Floy Dyer Manor Nursing Home in Houston. He was born April 9, 1914, in Pontotoc County. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent for many years. He was a retired farmer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Vardaman with Bro. Gladwin Carpenter officiating and the Rev. Parrish Hartley assisting. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Vardaman. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Vardaman is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bush and husband, James of Vardaman; two sons, Jerry Wayne Hartley and wife, Doris and Bro. Charles Fred Hartley and wife, Glenda, both of Vardaman; one brother, Dr. Mark F. Hartley of Waverly, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Jerrie Leah Nix (David), Angie Hartley, the Rev. Parrish Hartley (Jeanne Ann), Genia Ruth, Rachel Hartley and Holli Card (Rickey); 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a cousin, David Hardin and wife, Suzie of Buchanan, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Lorene Robertson Hartley; his parents, J.F. and Mable Burke Hartley; one sister, Mary Hartley; and two brothers, the Rev. Cooper Hartley and Joe B. Hartley.
Pallbearers will be Rickey Card, David Nix, Lee Parker, Gene Ruth, little Gene Ruth and Tyler Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the men’s adult Sunday school class at Friendship Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

ETTA – Doris Merle Garrison, 81, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born Nov. 11, 1929, in Union County to Johnny Evie Willard and Maybelle Thomas Willard. She was a homemaker, who took care of children. She loved quilting and working in her flower beds and garden. She also loved her family and her church family. She was a lifetime member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Harvey Reaves and the Rev. Wayne Garrison officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. United Funeral Service in New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Darrell Lee Garrison of Etta; four sons, Billy Garrison (Sandra), Allen Garrison (Dale), David Garrison (Lisa), all of New Albany and Dennis Garrison (Kay) of Potts Camp; two sisters, Nona Merritt and Sarah Taylor, both of Myrtle; two brothers James “Mark” Willard of New Albany and Jack Willard of Etta; 11 grandchildren, Tabathia Darby, Crystal Dodds, Steve Garrison, Labreeska McLeroy, Jonathan Garrison, Chandler Bridges Garrison, Heather Baker, Tori Garrison, Abby Garrison, Kagan Garrison and Leighann Tunnell; seven great-grandchildren; and her caregivers, Ginger Taylor and Flo Wade.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Stephanie Garrison; and two sisters, Velma Caples and Johnnie Ruth Murry.
Pallbearers will be Brian Willard, Jason Willard, Jeffery Willard, Ricky Caples, Narsha Weeden and Walter Clyde Richardson.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bethel Baptist Church.

NEW ALBANY – Macie Ophelia Burke, 85, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at her home in New Albany. She was born Oct. 13, 1925, to Tom Cobb and Tishie L. Pannell Cobb. She was a factory worker and a homemaker.

She is survived by four daughters, Cathern Austin (Bobby) of New Albany, Quay Morris (Roy) of Grenada, Hilda Kimbrell (Bobby Joe) of New Albany and Chris Cheatwood (Paul) of Potts Camp; three sons, James Hal Mardis (Faye) of Arkansas and Jimmy Mardis and Phillip Cavilee, both of New Albany; three sisters, Nora Lee Frazier and Maxie Frazier, both of New Albany and Rachel Robbins of Ripley; three brothers, John Cobb of Ripley and Walter “Fat” Cobb and Issac “Pip” Cobb, both of New Albany; 26 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.
