Hindman Doxey Jr.
JACKSON – Hindman Doxey Jr., 80, died unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at his home in Jackson. A native of Holly Springs, he graduated from Holly Springs High School in 1949. He attended Davidson College, graduated from University of Mississippi and received his master’s degree in geology from Louisiana State University. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from a career in Jackson as a geologist with Citgo Oil Co. He attended North Park Presbyterian Church for many years. Among his many travels were family vacations to Montreat, N.C., and annual trips to Sicily for the past 22 years.
He is survived by three sisters, Sarah Doxey Greer, Helen Doxey Tyson (Jack) and Frances Doxey Winter (Rusty); six nieces, including Katherine Tate of Jackson; two nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and seven first cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Hindman and Mary Bitzer Doxey.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Montreat Memorial Garden in Montreat, N.C.

PONTOTOC – James “Jim” Bennett, 82, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home of Pontotoc.
RIPLEY – G.W. Lindsey, 88, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. He was born April 25, 1923, to John and Ora Miller Lindsey in Benton County. He was retired from the Genesco Corporation with 32 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of North Ripley Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 54 years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at North Ripley Baptist Church with Bro. Lamar Grisham officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in Ripley. McBride Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Brown (Larry Griggs) of Saltillo; one son, Greg K. Lindsey (Janet) of Glen; one sister, Audrey Glidewell of Ripley; three grandchildren, Nicole Jones (Frankie) and Brandon Mack (Jenny), both of Macon, and Jennifer Lindsey of Long Beach; six great-grandchildren, Dylan Ruth, Natalie Ruth, Dakota Jones, Halee Mack, Hunter Mack and Lexlie Mack.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Miller Lindsey, and his parents.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. to noon Friday. Visitation will continue at the church from 2 p.m. to service time Friday.

LAURENS, S.C. – Edna Ruth McVay Riedl, 89, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at the Hospice Home in Greenwood, S.C. She was born July 5, 1922, in Pontotoc to Robert A. and Agnes McVay. She lived in Nisswa, Minn., for 60 years, where she was a homemaker. The last seven years she lived with her sister, Pat and James Bailey, in Laurens, S.C. She was a dear friend to everyone she met.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Black Zion Baptist Church. Forest Hill Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one stepson, John C. Riedl of Duluth, Minn.; two stepgrandchildren, John Riedl III and Nina Riedl Dojan; two great-grandchildren of Minneapolis, Minn.; one brother, Jerrel McVay of Senatobia; one sister, Pat McVay Bailey of Laurens, S.C.; two stepsisters, Shirley Stegall and Mamie Saxon of Pontotoc; one stepbrother, Bill Murphree of Houlka; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Martha McVay; eight brothers, two stepbrothers and one stepsister, Rachel Murphree Walker.

EUPORA – Joe Paul McCorkle, 45, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012.

IUKA – Delma Patrick Bonds, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. She was famous locally for making her special dinner rolls for everyone. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers and spending time with her family.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka with Bro. Acey Floyd, Corey Cummings and Steven Atkins officiating. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Charles Oneill Bonds (Jennifer) of Iuka; one daughter, Carolyn Bonds Chalk (Donnie) of Hickory Withe, Tenn.; three sisters, Burchia Milligan, Dudgar Cummings and Doris Bray, all of Iuka; eight grandchildren, Vanessa Borden, Jean Atkins, Sheryl Kennedy, Patricia Floyd. Stanley Cummings, Melinda Bonds Watson, Chris Bonds and Jason Chalk; 14 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Oneill Bonds; her daughter, Mary Annis Bonds Cummings; her son, Lee Roy Bonds; her parents, Henry and Mary Patrick; and her brother, L.B. Patrick
Pallbearers will be Bryan Bray, Jason Chalk, Donnie Chalk, Stanley Cummings, Erick Watson and George Mitchell Yow.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

CORINTH – Lula B. Johnson, 81, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at Cornerstone Health and Rehabilitation.

MYRTLE – Malcom Eugene “Gene” Allen, 72, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at his home. He was born in Brownfield, Tenn., on Sept. 11, 1939, to Fred and Lucille Wells Allen. He moved to Myrtle in 1986 from Middleton, Tenn. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in New Albany. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he had worked as a Tennessee Highway Patrolman and had worked for Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company in New Albany. He was a wonderful husband and daddy.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Glenfield Funeral Home in New Albany with the Rev. Whit Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park. Glenfield Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret L. Allen of Myrtle; son, Michael Eugene Allen (Elizabeth “Beth” Hill Allen) of Myrtle; brothers, Travis, Dennis and Ricky Allen, all of Rogers Springs, Tenn.; and grandsons, Steven Allen of Fulton, Landon Hill, Justin Hartfield and Colt Hartfield (Jesse McGee Hartfield), all of Myrtle.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.

TREMONT – Anthony K. Stanley, 47, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012. He was born on Feb. 10, 1964m to Charles Kenneth and Mary Jo Stanley in Tupelo. He was a construction worker. An avid NASCAR fan, he enjoyed fishing and camping.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Michael Felkins and Mark Barnett officiating. Burial will be in Asbury Methodist Cemetery.
Survivors include his father, Kenneth Stanley; his mother, Mary Jo Stanley; one daughter, Kelli Moore (Jessie) of Guntown; two sisters, Cindy Miles of Fulton and Missy Cates (Tracy) of Guntown; one brother, Michael Felkins (Stacy) of Ames, Iowa; four nieces and three nephews.
Pallbearers will be Brock Cates, Tracy Cates, Blake Miles, Tim Scott, Michael Miles and Mac Felkins.
