Verlon Honeycutt
BOONEVILLE – Verlon Honeycutt, 92, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, in Austin, Texas. She was born Jan. 16, 1919, in Burnsville to John Riley Glenn and Virgie Woodley Glenn. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Booneville since 1959. She graduated from Burnsville High School, attended the Mississippi University For Women, and received her bachelor’s degree from Delta State University. She taught first and fourth grades for 33 years, primarily in the Booneville School District. She served as a volunteer at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery. Booneville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by a son, Glenn Honeycutt of Booneville; a daughter, Jane Thorne (Larry) of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Maxine Bergin of Florence, Ala., and Christine Fisher (Doyle) of Tulsa, Okla.; two grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Honeycutt; and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

OLIVE BRANCH – Peggy Stafford, 55, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto in Southaven.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cedarview Unity Church in Olive Branch. Burial will be in Center Hill Cemetery in Olive Branch. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Irene Bradford
HICKORY FLAT – Jewell Irene Bradford died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at the Yalobusha Nursing Home in Water Valley. She was born May 29, 1913, on a farm east of Hickory Flat to Thomas Nathan and Mary Belle Goolsby Fortner. She lived her whole life in the area, where she was a faithful lifelong member of the Flat Rock Baptist Church, serving as a church pianist, church clerk and Bible School worker. Mrs. Bradford was a seamstress with the Irwin P. Schwabe manufacturing company, retiring in 1978. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother who truly spent her life doing for others. She enjoyed reading, singing, playing the piano, sewing, embroidering, quilting and baking teacakes and fried pies for family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Flat Rock Baptist Church with Bro. Gary Yates officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Glenfield Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Williams of Trenton, Tenn., Freddie Jean West (James Earl) of Water Valley and Anita Harmon (John) of Nesbit; one son, Warner Bradford (Barbara) of Hickory Flat; grandchildren, Steve Williams (Gin), Keith Williams, Brenda Coleman (Billy), Linda Parrish (Tommy), Greg West (Kay), Shannon Harrell, Christi Bradford Barker (Tommy) and Angie Bradford Hopper (Ritchie); great-grandchildren, Mallory Williams Johnson (Adam), Chelsea Williams, Johnathan Williams, Amy Williams, Heather Doan, Nathan Coleman (Ashley), Misty Parrish Houston (Dwayne), Christopher Parrish, Zeph West, Katie Brook West, Jordan Harrell, Abigail Barker, Thomas Barker, Benjamin Barker, Rhagen Hopper, Minor Hopper and Bradford Hopper;; and great-great-grandchildren, Kenzie Grace Johnson, Dylan Doan, Cameron Goodwin, Destiny Goodwin, Lacey Nicole Tidwell, Mary Coleman, Julie Houston and Zayden Houston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Ellis Bradford, on Dec. 7, 1990; and two brothers, Carl Fortner (Belle) and Abston Fortner (Holland).
Pallbearers will be James Cox, Charles Jackson, Charlie Jones, Clay Meeks, Glen Smith, Donald Thompson and Johnny Winborn.
Frances Brown
OXFORD – Frances Waits Brown, 72, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga. Born in Oxford, she was the widow of Vernon Kellar Brown Jr. She was the owner of Winston Bruce Insurance Agency and a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of Karas 2 Sunday School Class and was involved in various volunteer positions within the church. She enjoyed playing the piano at the Mississippi State Veterans Home. Mrs. Brown was a school bus driver for the Oxford School District, a driver for Angel Taxi and a newspaper carrier for 20 years.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Allen and Rev. Eric Hankins officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Donna Tarver Lane and husband, Gary, Sallie Wynne Brown and Debra Tarver Miller, all of Oxford; two stepsons, John M. “Johnny” Brown and Vernon Kellar “Trey” Brown III; five grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 until 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Lee Neese
JACKSON – Henry Lee Neese, 46, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at his home in Jackson after a sudden illness. A Greenville native, he was born Oct. 5, 1964, to Charles W. and Annie Homan Neese. He worked as a cook for the Stewpot Homeless Shelter in Jackson. He was a kind-hearted person who loved taking care of others, especially the homeless of his community.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork.
Survivors include his mother, Annie Homan Neese of Blue Springs; three sisters, Ruby Huskey (Eddie) of Greenville, Ruth Logan of Greenwood and Pamela Ray (Roger) of Blue Springs; four brothers, Charles Eugene Neese of Indianola, Henry Warner (Barbara) of Arlington, Texas, George Homan of Eupora and Jimmy Neese of Tupelo; 11 nieces and six nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles W. Neese, and a brother, Charles Neese Jr.

Shirley Pollan
WEST POINT – Shirley Lynn Gatlin Pollan, 58, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, in West Point after an extended illness. She was born Nov. 24, 1952, in Eupora to Adney Sibley and Thurman Gatlin. She was a bank teller for Renasant, Peoples Place and Clay for County Bank & Trust for 32 years. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church at Eupora.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery near Eupora with Bro. Stanley Blaylock officiating. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends will gather at 1:45 p.m. at the cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Chris Pollan (Trina) of Starkville; three grandsons, Nathan, Andrew and Jacob Pollan; aunts and uncles, Laveda and James Camp, and Nelda and Gerald Oswalt, all of West Point.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her grandparents, Wiley and Iva Sibley.
Honorary pallbearers will be special Friends, Rita Mattix, Dorothy Wardlaw, her fellow staff and especially all her customers from Renasant Bank over her 32-year career.

RED BAY, Ala. – Phillip Boyd, 61, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at the Red Bay Hospital. He was born Dec. 3, 1949, in Alabama to T.E. and Dona Petree Boyd. He was plant manager at Sunshine Homes for 40 years and a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. Greg Miller and Bro. Mike Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Halltown Cemetery in Vina, Ala. Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are his wife, Betty Boyd of Red Bay, Ala.; one daughter, Melissa Bolton (Kevin) of Red Bay; two stepchildren, Kim Brooks (Patrick) of Red Bay and Mark Carnes (Brooke) of Golden; one sister, Chestine Lindsey of Amory; one brother, Ottis Boyd of Red Bay; four grandchildren, Kaitlin Bolton, Lexie Carnes, Cody Carnes and Logan Brooks; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

Janice Farr
NEW ALBANY – Erma Janice Roberts Farr, 70, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born Dec. 19, 1940, in Union County to E.B. and Helen Watson Roberts. She was a retired employee of Brookwood Furniture and a member of Beulah Baptist Church. She loved her grandkids, and enjoyed yard work and going out to eat.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Hamilton and Rev. Kara Blackard officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by three daughters, Ann Rea (Gerald) and Sherry Ausburn (Mike), both of Myrtle, and Lorie Armstrong (Todd) of Tupelo; one son, Mike Carter (Valarie) of New Albany; one brother, Jeral Roberts (Anita) of New Albany; six grandchildren: Melanie Scott, Justin Murry, Jesse Rea, Brock Carter, Benjamin Carter and Bailey Armstrong; and three great-grandchildren: Brandon, Brently and Brayden Scott.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Farr; three sisters, Annie Lee Brown, Ione Camp and Essie Whitten; and five brothers, John, Roy, Esque, Ray and Billy Roberts.
Pallbearers will be James Ray Roberts, David Roberts, Wayne Littlejohn, Tommy Whitten, Pete Roberts and Will Moore.

Mary Myhand
BALDWYN – Mary Juanita Myhand, 79, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A native of Jefferson County, Tenn., she was born Feb. 27, 1931. She lived in the Pratts Community for the past 20 years. She was a member of First Independent Baptist Church.
Services will be 1 p.m. today at First Independent Baptist Church with Rev. Toby Mears officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Dale Sinard (Sandy) of Maryville, Tenn., and Gary Sinard of Morristown, Tenn.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Myhand, on Nov. 3, 2010.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Joyner, Nocomma Myhand, Jordon Chism, Terry Myhand, Jackie Myhand and Mark Bishop. Honorary pallbearers will be Steven Sinard, Edward Myhand and Kevin Bishop.

DUMAS – Eric Dewayne Gray, 30, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County. He was born Jan. 14, 1981, in New Albany to Lynn and Linda Hill Gray. He was an artist and loved drawing cartoons.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at United Funeral Service with Rev. Rank Boyte officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
He is survived by his parents, Lynn and Linda Hill Gray of Dumas; three sisters, Nancy Cobill (Stephen) and Kerrie Beaty (Daniel), both of Dumas, and Amanda Tutor (Jordan) of New Albany; two brothers, Jeffrey Gray (Roxanne) of Blue Mountain and Brandon Gray of Dumas; three nephews, Kylin Beaty, Bryce Gray and Alex Cobill; and two nieces, Emily Gray and Anna Tutor.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lynn Gray Sr. and Mary Anna Gray, and his maternal grandparents, Dillard Hill and Athelee Hill.

NEW ALBANY – Curtis Melvin Parker, 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born June 28, 1932, in New Albany to Will Lee and Martha Evanor Messer Parker. He was retired from retail management and a butcher. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at United Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Kermit McGregor, Rev. Trymon Messer and Rev. Terry Floyd officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Stroud Parker of New Albany; two daughters, Karen Mayo (Donald) of New Albany and Cindy Shotwell (Hugh) of Hideaway, Texas; two sons, Dan Parker (Suzanne) of Madison and Mike Parker (Lisa) of New Albany; two brothers, Charles Parker of Arlington, Texas, and Allen Parker (Joan) of Sebring, Fla.; six grandchildren, Amanda Wilson, Parker Dawson, Abbey Wright, Kayla Tullos, Allie Speck and Ashley Parker; and seven great-grandchildren, Curtis Wilson, Matthew Yoes, Cory Dawson, Elyss Dawson, Marianna Wright, Will Speck and Jacob Tullos.

Tompsy Browning
PONTOTOC – William Howard “Tompsy” Browning, 87, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at the Church Street Personal Care Home in Ecru. He was born April 10, 1923, to Clarence Edward and Almer Langford Browning. He was a member of Bethany Primitive Baptist Church. He owned and operated a country grocery store and he was a farmer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Wyoming.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Elder Larry Wise and Elder Roger Browning officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery.
He is survived by two brothers, Gene (Catherine) Browning of New Albany and Leighton Browning of Lone Star; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Dowdy Browning; his parents; and three sisters, Eunice Duncan, Grace Wray and Nona Fooshee.
Pallbearers are Terry Wise, Larry Williams, Billy Matkins, Marty Swords, Mickey Swords, Brian Browning and Larry Wood.

Maxine P. Roberts
TUPELO – Maxine P. Roberts, 87, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born Oct. 17, 1923, in Itawamba County to William Hugh and Ethel Dee Sloan Pennington. She had been a resident of Rosedale Personal Care Home in Tupelo for several years. She was a member of the Fulton Church of Christ. She had worked at NMMC as a supervisor in housekeeping.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Lott officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Masonic Cemetery. Senter Funeral Home of Fulton is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Gale Crump (David) of Shelbyville, Tenn.; one son, Dale Roberts (Barbara) of Mantachie: five grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael Dale, Errick, Derrick and Blane: 10 great-grandchildren, Sara Beth, Rachel, A.J., Kimberly, Candice, Hunter, Mickey, Micah, Toby and Lydia; one sister, Nell (Tootsie) Wardlaw of Nettleton; and stepchildren, Greta, William, Katie, Emily and Lee Lee.
Pallbearers will be Michael Dale Roberts, and Derrick, Errick and Blane Crump.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Roberts; her parents; one sister, Vivian Bethay; and four brothers, Jessie, Fessie, Gaylord and Ferlon Pennington.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time Thursday.
Willie Elrod
MOOREVILLE – Willie Elrod, 60, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011. He was born March 12, 1950, in Red Bay, Ala., to James Dossie and Addie Mae Dees Elrod. He was a member of the Richmond Pentecostal Church and a public worker. He was a beloved father and grandfather, and an avid Alabama football fan.
Services were Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the Richmond Pentecostal Church. Bro. Ricky Pierce and Bro. Bobby Thompson officiated. Burial was in Keyes Cemetery. Senter Funeral Home of Fulton was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Marla Thompson (Joey) of the Peaceful Valley community; two sons, Wayne Elrod (Christi) and Kenny Floyd, both of Mooreville; his grandchildren, Chloe Elrod, Tiffany Elrod, Kelsea Elrod and Rhyne Thompson; four sisters, Ruth McGough of Red Bay, Betty Bullock of Hodges, Ala., Sue Scott of Golden and Bonnie Garrison of Shottsville, Ala.; one brother, Pete Elrod (Wanda) of Golden; a sister-in-law, Frankie Hester (Ricky); and special friends, Ronnie and Darlene Green.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Elrod, in 2002; a sister, Bobbie Rogers; and a brother, Waymon Elrod.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Green, Bobby Kelly, Ricky Hester, Danny Rock, Buck McGough and John Dees.

HOLLY SPRINGS – Johnny Dexter Johnson, 89, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at Alliance Healthcare System in Holly Springs.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Providence M.B. Church in Holly Springs. Burial will be in the McIntyre M.B. Church Cemetery in Holly Springs. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.
