ATLANTA – Kathryn Elam Johnston, 84, formerly of Corinth, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by McPeters Inc. Funeral Directors of Corinth. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Lucy M. Simmons
MEMPHIS – Lucy M. Simmons, 59, of Bartlett, Tenn., and Henning, Tenn., died Saturday, July 10, 2010. She was a manager with Mapco Express for more than 20 years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Forest Hill East Funeral Home. Burial will follow.
Survivors include three brothers, Gerald W. “Kathy” Simmons Jr. of Brighton, Tenn., Mike Simmons of Memphis and William A. (Patricia) Simmons of Selmer, Tenn.; two sisters, Margie (Tony) Kirk of Ripley and Susan (Adam) Esan of Ramer, Tenn.; a half sister, Ginger (Robert) Smiley of Rome, Pa.; 14 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald W. and Grace Simmons; and a sister, Mary Jane.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Hazel Lockhart
FRISCO, Texas – Hazel Seely Lockhart, 85, died Sunday, July 11, 2010, in Frisco, Texas. She was born on Nov. 23, 1924, in Monroe County, the oldest of seven children. She married Willis Delford Lockhart on Jan. 26, 1947. They lived in Monroe County, where their two children were born. In 1963 they moved to Simpson County and in 1996 back to Monroe County until moving to Texas in 2001 to live with their daughter. Mrs. Lockhart was a devoted wife and loving mother.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen. Burial will be beside her husband at Center Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Hamilton. North Dallas Funeral Home of Dallas, Texas, is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter, Angie Beth Deets, of Frisco, Texas, and a son and wife, Greg and Becky Lockhart of McMinnville, Tenn.; a grandson and wife, Josh and Tana Kaye Lockhart of Pinson, Ala.; five sisters, Mavis Stanley, Judy Guess, Martha Ott, Jo Brown and Reba Conn and their husbands; sisters-in-law, Bea Lockhart and Mary Lockhart; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Irene Seely; her husband, Willis Delford Lockhart; a brother, Sidney Seely; a son-in-law, Lewis Deets; and a brother-in-law, Robert Stanley.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home.

NETTLETON – Arnetta L. Dilworth, 49, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Agnew and Sons Funeral Home of Verona.

PONTOTOC – Nakia B. Hubbard, 35, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete and will be later announced by Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc.
Jewell Kelly
TUPELO – Jewell Irene Kelly, 95, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Chesterville Baptist Church. Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Belden. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Marline McDonald
SALTILLO – Marline Brown McDonald, 72, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at her home after an extended illness. She was a homemaker and attended the Church of God.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gary Isabell and Bro. David Westmoreland officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Martha McAllister and Elder Tony of Louisville, Ky., Margaret Stroud and Rodney of Guntown, and Mary Bass and Johnny of Wetumpka, Ala.; one son, Norman McDonald Jr. of Baldwyn; two sisters, Hazel Garrard of Mantachie and Bernadine Posey of Guntown; two brothers, Jimmy Brown and Larry Brown, both of Guntown; seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lina Buse Brown; her husband, Norman McDonald Sr.; two daughters, Gloria Deason and Norma Baker; two sisters and one brother; and one great-grandchild, Angel McDonald.
Pallbearers will be Norman McDonald Jr., Jason McDonald, Casey McDonald, Clay McDonald, Robert Bass and Jamie Deason.
The family requests that memorials be made to Community Hospice in Verona.
Charles Hicks Jr.
STARKVILLE – Charles Hill Hicks Jr., 92, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at the Oktibbeha County Hospital. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Hicks Sr. of Tupelo, Mr. Hicks was born on Nov. 21, 1917, in Trenton, Tenn. His family moved to Minter City, where he spent his childhood. He graduated from Sunflower Agricultural High School and attended Millsaps College. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Hicks served in the 175th Army Engineers Company General Support Group and the 420th Army Service Forces Band. He reached the rank of sergeant and was awarded the American Defense Service Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operations Medal for his service that included Tunisia, Sicily, Naples, Rome and North Apennines.
After the war he returned to help in the family clothing business in Tupelo. He later worked as manager of WTVA-TV in Tupelo for 26 years. He was active in Calvary Baptist Church and the Mended Hearts program in Tupelo. He moved to Starkville in 2003 and was a member of Faith Baptist Church and the Oktoc Community Club.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. The Rev. Lee Winter will officiate. Burial will follow at Oddfellows Cemetery in Starkville. Welch Funeral Home of Starkville is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include one daughter, Hellen Hicks Polk and her husband, Carlton; and one grandson, John Parker Davis, all of Starkville. He also leaves his caregiver and friend, Irene Pace.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Lillian Hellen Hicks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum.

Charles Holley
NETTLETON – Charles H. Holley, 58, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at the Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks in Verona. A lifelong resident of Nettleton, he was born Oct. 26, 1951, the son of Valeria Estelle Gann Holley and the late Herschell Holley. Before his illness in 2008, he was employed by Jamp&B Services. He was a mechanic and enjoyed working on fast cars. A member of the Liberty Baptist Church, he was an active deacon and was very well known in the Brotherhood. He loved life, his family and helping others.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Liberty Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Tucker and Bro. Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery. Pickle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Wanda Ann Stevens Holley of Nettleton; two daughters, Tanya Holley of Nettleton and Dorinda Mayo (Randy) of Ecru; four brothers, Johnny Holley (Donna) of Amory, Randy Holley of Nettleton, Billy Holley of Nettleton and Gary Holley (Beth) of Richmond Hills, Ga.; one sister, Gail Kuykendall (Wayne) of West Point; four grandchildren, Daniel Holley (Amanda), Jenifer Justice (John), Allyson Phillips and Blair Brewer (Travis); and three great-grandchildren, Bella Smith, Cheyene Holley and Madison Justice.
He was preceded in death by father, G.H. and Opaline Gann; and John and Betty Holley.
Pallbearers will be Chris Holley, Danny Brookman, Daniel Brookman, Jim Dykes, Ronnie Flurry and David Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be C.W. Waddle, Murlis Underwood and George McBunch.
Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and will be from 8:30 until service time Thursday at the church.

Phillip Hensley
BLUE MOUNTAIN – Phillip Chad Hensley, 20, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at his home in Blue Mountain. He was an employee of Stiles Lawnmower Repair Service and a member of The Sanctuary in New Albany.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with the Rev. Tony Baker officiating. Burial will be in the Ripley Cemetery.
Survivors include his parents, Tommy Lee and Mary Ann Roebuck Hensley of Blue Mountain; one sister, Rebecca Amber Hensley of Blue Mountain; his grandmother, Minnie O.C. Russell of Ripley; one aunt, Billy Joe Frazier of Hickory Flat; one uncle, Joe Frazier of Hickory Flat.
He was preceded in death by a sister, April Celese Hensley.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Barkley, Bobby Hill, Fred Stiles, Patrick Rogers, David Spears and Scotty Compton.

BYHALIA – David Arnold Beaty, 58, died Monday, July 12, 2010, in Byhalia. He was born Oct. 2, 1951, in Benton, Ark. He was a diesel mechanic for Maclin Logistics.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at Holly Springs Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Robin Dumas Beaty of Byhalia; one son, David Layton Beaty of Jonesboro, Ark.; one stepson, Joshua Rose of Selmer, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Aaron Dumas of Byhalia; three grandchildren; a brother, Donnie Beaty of Memphis; three sisters, Debbie Beaty of Little Rock, Ark., Lynn Lackey of Memphis and Carol Robertson of Collierville, Tenn.; in-laws, Frances and Shorty Kennedy and Joyce Butler, all of Jonesboro, Ark., Becky and Dee Crossnine of Memphis, and Maggie and Gary Barrowclough of Fairbanks, Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Frank Beaty and Inez Cole.
Robert Boone
HOLLY SPRINGS – Robert Boone, 88, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. He was born Dec. 23, 1921, in Jaurez, Texas. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a Baptist and an employee of Holly Springs Brick and Tile.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holly Springs Funeral Home with Bro. Frank Feathers officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Holly Springs.
Survivors include his wife, Mable Boone of Holly Springs; three sons, Robert Clifton Boone of Marion, Ark., Michael Ray Boone of Oxford and Stephen Wayne Boone of Potts Camp; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Mann of Ripley; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aurelius Boone and Mary Floyd Boone.

HOLLY SPRINGS – Jerry Lee Dunn, 44, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at Holly Springs.

Helen Bunch
CLEARWATER, Fla. – Helen Bunch, 86, died Friday, July 2, 2010. Born in Amory on June 2, 1924, she was a devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an active member of Countryside Baptist Church in Clearwater, Fla., for many years, where she taught children’s Sunday school. She will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Countryside Baptist Church in Clearwater, Fla. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory is assisting the family.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Edgar J. Bunch; two sons, Edgar Jr. and Jeffrey; daughters-in-law, Mary and Cindi; four grandchildren, Kim, Steve, Jamie and Miles; two great-grandchildren, Bo and Catalina; nephews, Ken and Dan Davis of Smithville; and brother and sister-in-law, Earl Bunch and Mary Lockhart, both of Amory.
