Allan Humphreys
BATESVILLE – Allan Lee “Red” Humphreys, 47, died Monday, July 8, 2013, at his home. He was born in Memphis on Jan. 7, 1966, to Wanda Bouldin and William F. “Bill” Humphreys Jr. He laid carpet and did handy work for the public. He was an avid hunter; however, his passion was fishing on Sardis Lake. He loved his grandfather, Frank Humphreys, and he was an exceptionally good caregiver for his invalid father, Bill Humphreys.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at Ellistown Baptist Church at Blue Springs with the Rev. Mike Powell officiating. Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his father; an aunt, Jeanna Powell (David) of Kingsport, Tenn.; two Uncles, David Humphreys (Sherry) of Saltillo and Traugett Humphreys of Clarksville, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Syble Humphreys; and one uncle, John Humphreys.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church.

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – Theral Douglas McClain, 49, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville, Ky. He was a native of Houston.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at His Grace Ministries in Houlka. Barnett-Strother Funeral Home of Hopkinsville is in charge of arrangements.

GUNTOWN – Fred Daniel Hudson, 85, formerly of Corinth, died Monday, July 22, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today, July 24, at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Corinth. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Claude Bell
HOME, Pa. – Claude Vernon Bell, 86, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013, at his residence. A son of the late Kervin V. and Martha G. Bell, he was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Jackson. He was a graduate of Jett High School in Vicksburg. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS New York. He earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Mississippi State University. He married Ann Louise Baker in May 1952. He worked at RCA and Martin-Marietta, which became Lockheed Martin. They moved to Maitland, Fla., in 1962. He was a member and trustee of the Alverda Christian Church, and a Gideon’s Bible volunteer. He also enjoyed hunting.

He is survived by his second wife, Hildegard Bell of Home, Pa.; a daughter, Eleanor Fay Mills (Kenneth) of Ocala, Fla.; a son, Claude Vernon Bell Jr. (Colette) of Hohenwald, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Valerie Bacha (Patrick) of Home; twin sisters, Lois Taylor of Pearl and Louis Ashe of Tunica; three grandchildren, Terry Long, Catherine Bell and Vincent Bell; a stepgrandson, Michael Bacha; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister in law, Mary Martin Cunningham (Ferrell) of Aberdeen.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann L. Baker Bell; a daughter, Joyce Bell in 2012; a brother, Howard Bell; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sam and Louise Baker.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 25, at Union Cemetery at Wren. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Eden Martin, Phillip Cunningham, Archie Baker Jr., Sam Crawford Jr., Terry Long, Vincent Bell, Thomas Lee Cunningham and Herbert Word.

CORINTH – Shirley Teresa Irons, 50, died Monday, July 22, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at New Hope M.B. Church at Laws Hill. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of arrangements.

Edgar Johnson
IUKA – Edgar J. Johnson, 84, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at his residence. He was a member of Fairview Community Church. He was a former iron worker and a member of the Iron Workers Local 395 in Highland, Ind. Having earned the 50-year award, he was very active as a Mason and a Shriner, and was a member of the Highland, Ind., Lodge 569 F&AM. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather; and especially loved his Yorkshire Terriers, which he called his “babies.” He enjoyed gardening, yard work and helping others.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka. Bro. Jimmy Daniel will officiate. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores Johnson of Iuka; one son, Edgar Johnson Jr. (Deidre) of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters, Barbara Hudson of Oxford and Yvonne Shepherd (Ron) of Culver, Ind.; two sisters, Ruth McDougal and Jane

Rhodes, both of Corinth; seven grandchildren, Kristina Johnson, Derek Johnson (Dianna), Sommar Morrow, Sara Beth Hudson, Matthew Brock Hudson, Denver Shepherd (Jessie), and Savannah Larson (Eric); and five great-grandchildren,

Tawny Morrow, Jackson Morrow, Jack Larson, Lincoln Johnson and Thomas Larson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Bryant and Eula Pearl Holland Johnson; two sisters, Mamie “Sis” Gray and Amy Hannon; and a brother, Hugh “Bud” Johnson.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

William Dykes
MILLINGTON, Tenn. – William Andrew Dykes, 53, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at his home. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a firefighter/paramedic with the Bartlett Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Collie Holloway-Dykes; three daughters, Felisha Logan of Memphis, Kimberly Jones of Oakland and Andrea “Dee Dee” Brown of Olive Branch; a son, Logan Dykes of Henderson, Tenn.; a sister, Amelia Smith of Fulton; two brothers, Tommy Dykes of Memphis and Jesse Dykes of Mississippi; his father, William Henry Dykes of Fulton; and five grandchildren, Bruce, Alexis, Kristen, Colby Jr. and Christopher.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Dykes. and an uncle, Tommy O. Davis.

He has donated his body to the Medical Education Research Institute (M.E.R.I). A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 26, at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens. The gathering of friends and family will begin at 1 p.m.

Nancy Jumper
RIPLEY – Nancy Faye Butler Jumper, 81, died Monday, July 22, 2013, at Tippah County Hospital in Ripley. She was born June 29, 1932, to C.P. and Nancy Cordelia Blankenship Butler. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She lived in Corinth and graduated from Corinth High School in 1949. She moved to Booneville and worked in the business office of Booneville Hospital. She married James Jumper on July 21, 1951. In 1957 they moved to Ripley which became their home.

She was a housewife, bookkeeper and owner of the Company Store until she retired in 2009. She loved fishing, decorating, collecting antiques and pottery, and spending time with her pets, Sister and Josie.

She is survived by three daughters, Lynn Jumper Wooley (Danny), Ann Jumper Miller (Dave) and Becky Jumper Lindsey (Mark), all of Ripley; three sons, Jimmy “Bub” Jumper, Cris Jumper and Les Jumper, all of Ripley; three sisters, Betty Clyde Watson of Corinth, Majorie Jane Pickle (Earnest) of Dekalb, Texas, and Elaine Culp (Max) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; one brother, Billy Butler (Chris) of Paducah, Ky.; 12 grandchildren, Paula Wooley Sullivan (Andy) of Ripley, Sherri Wooley Robbins of Tupelo, Liza Wooley Pannell (Russel) of Ripley, Elizabeth Miller Smith (Steven) of Holly Springs, Sarah Miller Taylor (Jason) of Holly Springs, Jim Jumper of Ripley, Rainer Jumper of Ripley, Braxton Coombs (Elizabeth) of Alexandria, Va., Carson Coombs of Blue Mountain, Adam Coombs of New Albany, Reed Lindsey of Ripley and Kerston Jumper of Guntown; and 10 great-grandchildren, Kiley Sullivan Forsythe (Galen) of Starkville, Rusty Robbins and Casey Robbins, both of Tupelo, Abby Sullivan, Drew Sullivan, Jenna Pannell and John Carter Pannell, all of Ripley, Gus Smith, Leo Smith and Annie Taylor, all of Holly Springs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Lester Jumper, on Oct. 18, 1991; one sister, Mary Nell Dillon; and five brothers, Horace, Harold, Warren, James Travis and Brody Butler.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Patrick Chapman officiating and Russell Pannell assisting. A private burial will be in Tippah Memorial Garden.
Pallbearers will be Jim Jumper, Rainer Jumper, Braxton Coombs, Carson Coombs, Adam Coombs, Reed Lindsey, Rusty Robbins, Casey Robbins and Drew Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers will be John Carter Pannell, Gus Smith and Leo Smith.

RED BAY, Ala. – Patricia Waits Hale, 57, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo following an extended illness. She was born May 4, 1956, in New Albany to Waymon and Doris Sappington Waits. She was a graduate of Ingomar High School. During her earlier years she worked as a secretary and seamstress in the furniture manufacturing industry. She lived in Generations Nursing Home of Red Bay for the past several years. She was of the Baptist faith.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be at 2 p.m. today, July 24, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in New Albany. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her two sons, Nathan Hale (Kate) of Lenoir City, Tenn., and Ben Hale (Larissa) of Golden; one brother, Douglas Waits of New Albany; one sister, Linda Gay Rooker (Don) of Ecru; and grandchild, Alex Lynch.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
