Bennie Johnson
TUPELO – Mrs. George C. (Bernice Wilemon) Johnson Sr., 101, died Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Tupelo Health and Rehabilitation Center in Tupelo. The centenarian was born on March 26, 1911, in Itawamba County to William Raymond “Boss” Wilemon and Leona Tucker Wilemon. She grew up in Itawamba County and married G.C. “Bro.” Johnson, longtime legendary Southern Baptist preacher, on Dec. 17, 1938, a marriage that lasted until his death in 1985. She was a beloved pastor’s wife and helpmate for 47 years. She delighted, inspired and educated their various congregations as a warm gregarious hostess to church events and a learned Sunday school and vacation Bible school teacher. After her husband’s death, she joined Harrisburg Baptist Church where she was active in the Sanctuary Sunday school class. Her sunset years were filled with continued travel with her “golden girlfriends.” Together, they toured every state in the United States except Hawaii.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. today at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Dr. Forrest Sheffield and Bro. David Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Shannon Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughters, Glenda McCool (Robert “Slick”) and Judy Foster (Greg), all of Tupelo; son, Rev. George C. Johnson, Jr. (Linda) of Belzoni, four grandchildren, Lori Ramsey, Lisa Hunt (Hugh), Matthew Johnson (Rebekah) and Sonya Chandler. eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a half-brother, Howard “Buddy” Wilemon (Fran) of Atlanta, Ga.; a half-sister, Margie Chunn (Wallace) of Mobile, Ala.; and a very special niece, Morine Rice.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, Eunice Wilemon, Lavada Ivy and Lucille Burns; and three brothers, Eardis, Edison and William Raymond Wilemon.
Pallbearers will be Larry Digby, Matthew Johnson, Barton Ramsey, John Haydock, Paul Johnson and John Wilemon. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Johnson, Slick McCool, Bob Rice and Greg Foster.
Visitation is from 10:30 a.m. until service time today at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors.

WEST POINT – Carlous Mantrez Perry, 30, died Tuesday, April 30, 2012, in Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Union Baptist M.B. Church. Burial will be in Union Baptist Memorial Garden in West Point. Belle Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jimmy Roland
MORTON – James “Jimmy” L. Roland, 78, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the V.A. Medical Center in Jackson. He was a native of Scott County. He was the son of Jesse M. and Flora Grace Roland. He worked in the furniture industry for 30 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army and will be honored with a Military Ceremony at his service. He was a member of the East Morton Baptist Church. He loved his family very much and spending time with them brought great joy to his life. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton with Rev. Earl Clark, Rev. Jerry Holmes and Rev. Gary Glazier officiating. Burial will be in Morton Memorial Gardens. Ott and Lee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his children, Tammie Roland (Tim) Tabor of Hernando and Tim (Stephanie) Roland of Tupelo; brother, Melvin T. (Frisky) Roland of Morton and Shirley (Chester) Sawyer of Morton; five grandchildren, Tyler and Taryn Tabor, James Yanascek, Jacob Roland and Megan Roland; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant grandchildren, Matthew and Joshua Roland.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

IUKA – Kenneth L. Pearson, 66, died Friday, May 4, 2012, at his home.

FULTON – Jewel Chamblee, 93, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012. She was born Aug. 15, 1918, to Willie and Elizabeth Uptain Manasco in Itawamba County. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, crocheting, knitting, sewing and spending time with family.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. James Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Garden. Senter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a sister, Tula Colvin of Hamilton, Ala.; grandsons, Joe, Phillip and Wesley Chamblee; granddaughters, Vicki Walker and Sue Chamblee; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Chamblee; her parents; sons, Charles Wesley and Carl Donald Chamblee; grandson, Steve Walker; brothers, Earl, Orville and James Manasco; and sister, Beulah Brannock.
Pallbearers will be Wes Walker and Will Walker.

GREENWOOD – Charles S. Moore, 71, died Monday, May 7, 2012, at Golden Age Nursing Home.

RIPLEY – Simon L. Leopard Sr., 71, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at his home in Ripley. He was born Jan. 1, 1941, to Charlie Green and Onie Smith Leopard. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church. He worked for Hankins and Rollison Sawmill.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Billy Watkins and Bro. Herman Hancock officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery. Ripley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Leopard of Ripley; three daughters, Patty Yancey (Malcom Jr.) of Blue Mountain, Brenda Weaver (Johnny) and Nancy Weaver (Tony), all of Ripley; one son, Simon L. Leopard Jr. (Karen) of Ripley; nine grandchildren, Michael Herman of Blue Mountain, Jeffrey Weaver Sr. (Nicole), Scottie Weaver (Allie), Candis Dixon (Michael), Matthew Akins, Eric Weaver, David Leopard, Lisa Leopard and Justin Leopard, all of Ripley; 11 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ruth Sides (Walter), Etta Thomas (Raymond), and Josephine Cook, all of Ripley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Boyd Mullins; and one brother, Lonnie Leopard.
Pallbearers will be James Sides, Willie Hendrix, Daniel Hendrix, Josh Thomas, L.J. Smith and Charles Leopard. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Leopard and Larry Leopard.

John Camp
HOULKA – John H. Camp, 75, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at his home. He was born July 20, 1936, in Robbs. He graduated from Houlka High School Class of 1955. He was an Army veteran. He was a 40 year member of Bloomington, Ill., Masonic Lodge #43. He worked as an engineer for the GM amp& O, ICG and Amtrak Railroad. He was also a member of the Mississippi U.S. Dept. of Forestry.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Long officiating. Burial will follow in the Collums Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Joyce “Polly” Slaughter Camp; a son, John H. Camp Jr.; a daughter, Joyce A. Camp, both of Memphis; three sisters, Norma Sue Barrett (Sonny) of Tucson, Ariz., Mary Ellen Colvin of Cordova, Tenn., and Patricia Gail Dorsey of Greensville, S.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby Gayle Camp and a son, Joseph Camp.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday.

Dwight Graham
PONTOTOC – Dwight Jim “Man” Graham, 65, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Graceland Care Center in New Albany. He was born July 9, 1946, in Pontotoc County to Jim J. and Myrtle Graham. He was a member of the Hurricane Baptist Church. He was a retired truck driver. He served our country in the National Guard.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Bro. Doug Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Springs Cemetery. Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.
Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the funeral home.
