Bessie M. Hurd

CHEROKEE, Ala. Bessie M. Hurd, 91, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at Iuka Hospital. She attended the Church of Christ and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Hurd; and one daughter, Peggy Daniel.

Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. W.T. Dexter officiating. Burial will be in Careyton Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Varnell Waddell of Cherokee, Ala.; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Obera Morgan

CALHOUN CITY Obera White Morgan, 95, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at Calhoun County Nursing Home. She was born May 7, 1903, in Calhoun County to William J. White and Helena Brown White. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She was the widow of Dewey J. Morgan.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Anthony Kay officiating. Burial will be in Oak Springs Cemetery in Derma.

Survivors include one daughter, Sara Morgan Norris of Houston; three sons, Jim Morgan of Calhoun City, Bob Morgan of Memphis, and Dick Morgan of Greenville, S.C.; 13 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Elva Roberson

WALNUT Elva Roberson, 84, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at Tippah County Hospital. She was a member of County Line Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Roberson; her parents, Luther and Etta Mullins Bass; and one son, James Lewis Roberson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at County Line Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Bumpers and the Rev. Paul Adams officiating. Burial will be in Camp Ground Cemetery. Ripley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Wilbanks of Walnut; three sons, Danny Neal Roberson, Trent Roberson and his wife, Linda, and Paul Tilman Roberson and his wife, Lamanda, all of Walnut; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to services.

Peggy Spoon

BURNSVILLE Peggy Spoon, 54, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at her residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Cutshall Funeral Home.

Coval Johnson

FULTON Coval Johnson, 79, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

NETTLETON Sarah “Mama Dale” Booth Laney, 74, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton.

Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lois Pugh

BELMONT Lois Pugh, 68, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Deaton Funeral Home of Belmont.

Louise Hinds

BALDWYN Louise Hinds, 69, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was a retired L.P.N. and E.M.T. working for Dr. J.M. Ford and the the Baldwyn Satellite Hospital. She was the former owner of Klothes Line and Baldwyn Florist. She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dean Warren officiating. Burial will be in the Unity Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Vicki Letson and her husband, Danny, of Corinth and Tongi Davis and her husband, Mike, of Booneville; one brother, Bill Raper and his wife, Dorothy, of the Unity Community; 10 grandchildren, Danielle, Rodney, Rusty, Amanda, Christopher, Carlos and Adrain Letson, Dustin, Jordyan and Braxton Davis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Hinds; one sister, Nell Newman; two brothers, Boris and Toad Raper; her parents, Jess and Sarah Raper.

Pallbearers will be Bob Glover, Jackie Goff, David Long, Allen King, Gary Williams and Wylie Parham.

Honorary pallbearers will be former nurses of the Baldwyn Satellite Hospital.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ronnie Strange

Booneville Ronnie Dale Strange, 36, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital, Booneville.

He was disabled and a lifelong resident of Booneville.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery with Rev. Austin Shook officiating.

Salts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila Cole Strange of Booneville; two sons, Rodney Strange and Chad Strange, both of Booneville; his father, James “Jim” Strange of Booneville; his mother, Virginia Strange of Baldwyn; one brother, Larry Strange of Booneville; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Beatrice Strange of Booneville; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Elsie Willis, of Booneville.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.
