Joe Moody
RIPLEY – Joe Thomas Moody, 78, died Oct. 23, 2010, at his home in Ripley. He was born Nov. 22, 1931, in Benton County to Richard Thomas and Della Graves Moody. He was retired from American Biltrite with 32 years of service. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Ripley Church of Christ.
Graveside services were held Sunday at Tippah Memorial Gardens in Ripley with Elder Wade Huddleston officiating. McBride Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Avis Johnson Moody of Ripley; his daughter, Johna Hopper (Billy Joe) of Ripley; his son, Tim Moody of Ripley; and his three grandsons, Jacob, Jordan and John Mark Hopper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Jackie King and Sue Elliot.
Pallbearers were Jacob Hopper, Jordan Hopper, John Mark Hopper, Billy Joe Hopper, Derek Smith and Jimmy Smith.

Mertice Vance
HOULKA – Mertice Charlene Grimes Vance died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, in Chattanooga, Tenn. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Memorial Funeral Home of Houston.
James Saunders
HOLLY SPRINGS – James L. Saunders, 84, died Oct. 23, 2010, at his home. He was born Dec. 11, 1925, in Harmontown. He was a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church, the owner of Retail Gro./Gas, a plant foreman for local companies and a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Moore officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Holly Springs. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Dawson Saunders; one son, Randy (Charlotte) Saunders; two daughters, Sharon (Donald) Pogue and Jayme (Tate) Miller, all of Holly Springs; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Helene Cook Saunders.
His nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

BOONEVILLE – John Calvin “J.C.” Dees, 86, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at Longwood Community Living Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Jim Estes and Minister Greg Pollock officiating. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Evie Webb
WEST POINT – Evie Virginia amp”Ginamp” Webb, 88, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at the Dugan Memorial
Home in West Point. She was born July 12, 1922, in Cathage to Ruby Octavia Garnett Webb and Dr. Robert Marvin Webb. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Columbus.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Oregon Memorial Cemetery near Lexington with Bro. W.E. amp”Buckamp” Buchanan officiating. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
She leaves no immediate survivors.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Webb Watson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wheeler Pulliam, Jerry Webb, John Webb, Bill Owens, Mike Mathews, Edward Saunders, Carey Upton and Wil Webb.

Visitation will be at the cemetery from 1:45 p.m. until service time.

Roger Fowler
OKOLONA – Roger Dale Fowler, 67, died suddenly Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at his home. He was born July 17, 1943, in Itawamba County to Herman and Wilma Neal Fowler. He lived in the Lost Corner Community of Itawamba County early in life and had lived in Okolona for the past 30 years. He attended Primitive Baptist Church. He was a retired truck driver with Truck It and also worked in his younger years in law enforcement in Monroe County. He loved and took pride in his big truck and was an outdoorsman.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Eric Boykin officiating. Burial will be in East Chickasaw Memorial Garden. Holland Funeral Home-Okolona Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret “Mama” Fowler; a daughter, Amanda Hays (John); a son, Michael Fowler (Daphne), all of Okolona; six grandchildren, Madison, Logan and Lily Fowler, John Bentley and Mary Margaret Hays and Lige Williams; a sister, Marilyn O’Donnell (Tom) of Coco Beach, Fla.; and a brother, Don Fowler (Ruth) of Jackson.
Pallbearers will be J.R. Kilgore, Keith Roberson, Jason Pannell, Brad Walls, Curry Justice and Jamie Eubank.
Honorary pallbearers will be all his Truckin’ buddies!
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from noon until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Janet Gaines
NEW ALBANY – Janet Faye Murphy Gaines, 54, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born May 25, 1956, in Flint, Mich. to Morgan Murphy Jr. and Margie J. Long Murphy. She was a former employee of International Paper in Memphis and the North Mississippi Medical Clinic in New Albany. She was a member of the Humane Society and the Desoto County Animal Rescue. She was very sensitive to the needs and care of animals. She was an avid flower gardener and a member of Martin Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m Tuesday at United Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Andy Russell officiating. Burial will be in Vista Memorial Park. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her mother, Margie J. Murphy of New Albany; her husband, Andy Gaines of New Albany; a daughter, Lacie Morgan Broadus of Olive Branch; a son, Sean Andrews Ingram of Memphis; two sisters, Deborah Dianne Langston of Lakeland, Tenn. and Rhonda Sue Stacks of Hernando; and a brother, Gregory Wayne Murphy of Memphis.
She was preceded in death by her father, Morgan Murphy Jr.
Pallbearers will be Caffey Broadus, Jeff Gaines, Adam Gaines, Matt Gaines, Jon Gaines and Christopher Hargrove.
Honorary pallbearers will be Nick Moorehead, Robert Gaines, John Ellis, Brent Henderson, Andy Martin and David Gaines.

RIPLEY – Cecil Winkles, 62, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. He was born Nov. 22, 1947, to Willie Winkles and Jewell Marie Thomas Winkles Smith. He was a disabled logger.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, at New Harmony United Methodist Church with Bro. Doc Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Little Brown Baptist Church Cemetery. Ripley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by two sisters, Peggy Herman of Dumas and Gail Spencer of Walnut; and two brothers, Larry Winkles and Jackie Smith, all of Ripley.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Herman, Robby Herman, Sonny Reed, Jimmy Eaton, Danny Burns, Wesley McVey and Earl Hopkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Hazel Eaton and Janice Reed; one brother, Charles Winkles; and his step-father, Gene Smith.
