NEW ALBANY – Jewell E. McKeown Drummond, 95, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at Union County Health and Rehab in New Albany. She was born Dec. 19, 1915, in Union County, MS to Mansell and Susan Ella Treadaway McKeown. She was a homemaker and a member of Center Baptist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at United Funeral Service with Rev. Jeff Lawrence and Rev. Nathan Hodum officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Gail Freeman (Devon) of New Albany and Marie Warrington (Mike) of Cotton Plant; one son, Gilbert Drummond of Pickwick; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Drummond; her parents; a sister, Minnie Armstrong; and a brother, Orbie McKeown.

VALLEY GROVE – Jimmie Louise Russell, 86, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born Nov. 2, 1924, in Pontotoc County to Chester and Lois Bass. She married William Kermit Russell on April 3, 1943. Soon after he joined the military and they traveled extensively with five children for 22 years. She was a devoted wife, excellent mother and homemaker and a great cook. When they returned home to the Valley Grove community in 1990, she attended Valley Grove Baptist Church. She also was a member of the Eastern Star Greenville Chapter 189 of Greenville, Texas.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Valley Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Quarrells officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley Grove Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three sons, James Russell and wife, Doris, of Saltillo, Tom Russell and wife, Sunnett, of Thaxton and Bill Russell and wife, Ann, of Tupelo; one daughter: Doris Williams and husband, David, of Greenville, Texas; three sisters: Patty Burks and husband, Billy, Martha Stewart and husband, Don, of Tupelo, and Jane Coggins of Memphis; two brothers: Bobby Bass and wife, Janice, of Tupelo and Billy Bass and wife, Margaret, of Memphis; two sisters-in-law, Sadie Bass and Mary Ruth Bass, both of Tupelo; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; one son, Mike Russell; one son-in-law, Wayne Coggins; one sister, Gertie Russell and husband, Holland; three brothers, Lonzo Bass, Paul Bass, and Thomas Bass and wife, Moree.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Paul Bass Jr., Bubba Bass, Mark Stewart, Kelly Stewart, Danny Bass and Greg Burks. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Russell, Bobby Glen Bass, Steve Bass, Patrick Simpson and Terry Coggins.

HAMILTON – Viola Mae Allen Gunter, 83, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Oaktree Assisted Living in Amory. She was born Aug. 14, 1928, to John Henry Allen and Avis Elenora West Allen in Aberdeen. She was a lifelong resident of Monroe County. She worked as a seamstress at Seminole Manufacturing and Hamilton Garment Plant. She was a member of Fig Hill Church of God.

PALMETTO – Odis Elliott, 60, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at the V.A. Hospital in Jackson after a brief illness. He was born in Tunica County on March 8, 1951, to I.T. “Lee” Elliott and Mary Alice Poynor Elloitt. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after spending time in Korea. His working life was as a self-employed mechanic and working in a garment factory. A Baptist, he loved the outdoors and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Services with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors. Burial will follow in Tupelo Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Juan Jackson Elliott of Palmetto; his children, Susan J. RIPLEY – Betty Lee Holland Vuncannon, 67, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at Tippah County Hospital in Ripley. She was born July 11, 1944, to Thomas Lee Holland and Effie May Childers Holland. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Onnie Ralph and Bro. Smiley Mills officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter, Freida Morgan (Harold) of Dry Creek community; four sons, James Tracy Vuncannon (Shelia), Bo Vuncannon, Bro. Terry Ray Vuncannon (Deena) and Timmy Lee Vuncannon, all of Ripley; nine grandchildren, Tony Morgan (Melissa) of Rienzi, Kesha Robbins (Ben) of Dry Creek, Heath Vuncannon (fiancampée, Janet Self), Shana Vuncannon, Branston Vuncannon and Tyler Vuncannon, all of Ripley, Brandon Vuncannon of Baldwyn, Brittany Vuncannon of Guntown and Dylan Vuncannon of Tupelo; and four great-grandchildren.

AMORY – Faye M. Cantrell, 62, died on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on Nov. 2, 1948, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Flonnie Ree Honeycutt Morrow and the late Ovie L. Morrow. She was a graduate of Hatley High School Class of 1966 and of Vaughn’s Beauty College. She worked as a beautician and was a cashier at Walmart for several years. She was of the Baptist faith. A kind-hearted and family-oriented lady, she believed in taking care of her parents. She enjoyed gospel music and eating.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at the Masonic Cemetery with Bro. Mike Todd officiating. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her mother, Flonnie Morrow of Amory; cousin, Dale Andrews (Terry) of Aberdeen; and several other cousins.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Cantrell.
Pallbearers were John Kelly Easter Jr., Joe Easter, Terry Cummings and Dale Andrews.

PONTOTOC – Earnestine Moorman, 86, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at Church Street Personal Care Home in Ecru. She was a loyal member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A resident of Church Street Personal Care home for 1 1/2 years, she enjoyed playing bingo and socializing with the staff and residents.
Services were Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Fred Hartley and Bro. David Hamilton officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Yates (Floyd); 10 grandchildren, Terry Rackley (Denise), Christy Payne (Andy), Kevin Rackley (Misty), Lance Sewell (Jodi), Nicole Hastings, Dustin Waldron (Maureen), Ryan Moorman, Beth Lowery (Charlie), Jordan Yates and Cady Hester; 10 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Allie, Drew, Kylie, Micah, Evie, Isaac, Blake, Blase and Ashton; and three sons-in-law, Thomas Dearman, Cecil Hester and Charles Waldron.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C.O. Moorman; three daughters, Betty Lynn Sewell, Lyndia Dearman and Amy Hester; one son, Barry Moorman; and one grandson, Jeff Rackley.

SHANNON – Angie Marie Parchman, 54, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Sanctuary Hospice House after a brief illness. She was born in Blytheville, Ark., on Nov. 4, 1956. She lived most of her life in Lee County, attending school in Plantersville and Shannon. She married James Randy Parchman on Jan. 21, l977. Her working career included many years at PeopLounger in Nettleton and several years at the North Mississippi Medical Center with her most recent employment as site manager in Nettleton for Three Rivers Planning and Development District. She was a member presently at Antioch Baptist Church near Becker, where her husband is the pastor, but had spent many years as a member of Victory Baptist Church in Nettleton. Affectionately called “MeMe” by her grandchildren, Mrs. Parchman was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother . She enjoyed fishing, sewing, all outdoors, especially her flowers and garden, and raising rabbits. She was fond of riding motorcycles in the mountains and was known for her broad and generous smile.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Robert Earl Fowlkes and Bro. Jerry Estes officiating. Burial will follow in the Unity Presbyterian Church Cemetery east of Plantersville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from noon-service time Thursday at the Tupelo Chapel. Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Bro. Randy Parchman of Shannon; her mother and daddy, Gladys and Junior Morgan of Plantersville; her children, Randy Parchman Jr. of Shannon and Amanda Marie Parchman Marcy (Shane) of Mooreville; a daughter-in -law, Mary Beth Parchman of Plantersville; three grandchildren, Amelia Parchman, Addyson Marcy and Courtney Rogers; one great-grandchild, Cayden Rogers; three siblings, Terry Allen Hopper (fiancampée, Jeanette) of Tupelo, Connie Lyn Ethridge of Shannon and Michael Hopper (Rhonda) of Auburn; her mother-in-law, Annie Parchman of Shannon; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Angie and Danny Simmons of Shannon.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her son, Allen Parchman, on Nov. 16, 2010.
