Officer wounded, suspect killed in Dumas after high speed chase

DUMAS – Tippah part-time deputy Brent Garner – who is also a full time Ripley police officer – was shot and wounded, and a robbery suspect shot and killed by law enforcement officers, Thursday night in Dumas, authorities said.

Garner was shot in the leg. His wound was described as non-life-threatening by authorities.

The situation developed following an armed robbery in Ripley earlier Thursday. In a high speed pursuit, Ripley police and Tippah deputies chased a suspect from Ripley to a County Road 744 address. Shortly after that, Garner was shot. Multiple shots were fired by officers and the suspect – who has not been identified – was killed.
