TUPELO – It’s the news many of you have been waiting for: The Daily Journal has gotten confirmation that the lease is signed, and Five Guys Burgers & Fries is opening a location in Tupelo.

As the Journal first reported last year, the restaurant will open in the King’s Crossing retail center, which is home to Kohl’s, Ross Dress for Less, Newk’s, Gigi’s Cupcakes, Dress Barn, Kirkland’s, Mt. Fuji and others.

Five Guys will occupy the northwest corner of the development, next to Sports Clips and Smoothie King.

Jed Heubach of Eat Here Brands of Jackson, which owns the franchise rights, said the store will cover 2,400 square feet and seat 75-80. It will employ about 50 to start.

“We plan to open by the end of the summer,” Heubach said.

Job applicants can go to the company’s website for employment info.

Heubach said they’re hiring for the management team and a few other key positions right now.

Five Guys currently has Mississippi locations in D’Iberville, Flowood, Gulfport, Hattiesburg and Ridgeland.

Frankly, I’ll believe it when I see it. So many restaurants have said they were coming to Tupelo, and then they just quietly faded away. What happened to Bop’s, for example? Someone was going to take over or re-open the Bumper’s drive-ins. They still sit empty.

  • Does Tupelo really need another eating place? There are so many already!

I like Five Guy’s alright, but do we really need another place to get a burger and fries?
