Officials unveil plans for Starkville municipal complex

By The Associated Press

STARKVILLE — The city of Starkville is considering plans to construct a new police department and renovate City Hall to house various government offices.

Architect Gary Shafer told a public meeting this week that the police department would cost about $8.3 million while the two-story annex and renovation at City Hall would cost about $5.8 million.

Shafer says construction could be completed in three to four years.

Questions remain about how the city will pay for the work.

Financial consultant Demery Grubbs says he recommends a general obligation bond to cover the cost of the municipal complex and seeking a loan from the Mississippi Development Bank.

Grubbs says getting money from two sources would allow more flexibility in the payment amount and the repayment schedule.
