Okolona man to be sentenced in cocaine case

ABERDEEN — A sentencing date has been set for a man convicted of selling large quantities of cocaine from his mobile home in Okolona.

James Evans pleaded guilty in November to possession with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.

Sentencing is May 16 in U.S. District Court in Aberdeen.

Prosecutors say the investigation began last year after complaints from people in the area that Evans was selling drugs.

When a probation officer went to check his house in July 2011, authorities found two kilograms of cocaine in a car parked outside. Nearly 11 more kilograms were found inside a dresser in the mobile home.

Prosecutors say Evans told investigators the cocaine came from a cartel in Texas.
